Are there new changes to the OWGR points for The Sentry 2025? The season-opening signature event in 2024 was the beginning of an entirely new points system for the PGA Tour. Before the tournament had begun, Jay Monahan & Co. announced the intriguing new points allocation system where the top-performing players from the previous year would gain more OWGR points.
Named ‘Bonus Points’, the system would reward multi-title winning players from the previous season with a percentage of the points they gain from the events this season. This immediately took effect at The Sentry 2024, where the tournament winner, Chris Kirk, was given 4 extra OWGR points for winning multiple events in a 52-week calendar.
Along with the newly introduced system, the PGA Tour and OWGR had also increased the base points awarded to the winners of The Sentry. So, along with the 4 bonus points, Chris Kirk was also awarded 60 base points which helped him rank up on the table. However, when you compare the same to the 2023 winner, Jon Rahm, the Spaniard had only received about 37.67 from his win. Since The Sentry 2025 is only a few weeks away, the OWGR website has now released the exact base points to be awarded to the eventual winner. Unlike 2024, the 2025 edition of the event has seen a decrease in the points.

As stated on the official website, the winner of The Sentry 2025 will be granted 52.89843 points. This is more than 7 base points fewer than what Chris Kirk received in 2024. Neither the PGA Tour nor OWGR have provided any indication as to why the change has been made. However, there have been no rumors of the new points system being removed from practice. So if a multi-championship winner from 2024 does manage to bag The Sentry 2025, they will be awarded Bonus Points for their efforts.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the top-performing players from 2024 who can win more than the 4 Bonus points secured by Chris Kirk.
Highest bonus points candidates at The Sentry 2025
Chris Kirk had won 1 PGA Tour title before bagging The Sentry in 2024. This helped him gain 4 OWGR points. However, some of the favorites at The Sentry 2025 have found success more than once in 2024. Xander Schauffele is the highest-ranked player participating in the signature event next week. Having won 2 majors in 2024, he will be eager to kick off the new year with a winning start. If the world no. 2 does manage to win the title, he will be eligible for more than 4 bonus points, getting him closer to Scottie Scheffler.

Another tournament favorite is the new face of the PGA Tour in 2024, Nick Dunlap. The 21-year-old created history in his rookie season by winning titles as an amateur and a pro. The never-before-achieved feat has put him under the spotlight as he looks to improve his record of 2 PGA Tour wins in a season. He will be looking forward to kicking off his victory run by lifting The Sentry 2025 at the Plantation Course in Hawaii. Along with the title, Dunlap will also gain more than 4 bonus points on the OWGR rankings adding to the 52.9 he will get from winning the tournament.
