The PGA Tour has been hit with a setback yet again. The first round of the ongoing PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP on the men’s circuit was suspended yesterday owing to unfavorable weather conditions resulting in bad light. Well, it appears the curse hasn’t left the tournament yet, as the second round also suffered a similar fate.

PGA Tour Communications just minutes ago announced on X that the Friday round too “was suspended due to darkness at 7:30 p.m. ET.” The Tour further announced that play would resume on Saturday at 7:40 a.m. ET. Round 3 tee times will begin at approximately 8:20 a.m. ET.

This was expected as per the weather report that was made public hours ago, which indicated slight chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon with around a 20% chance of rain at 0.05 inches. The temperature too was predicted to vary from as high as 80F to as low as 66F, along with winds blowing from south to south-east at a speed of 10–20 mph, thus possibly leading to the second round being delayed too.

Fortunately, two golfers, Riyo Hisatsune and Ben Silverman, were left to complete their second round. Interestingly, Silverman was just on his last play before the round got called off, and it was quite a crucial one for him. He had only a total of 109 yards left to play, and if he managed to make that, he would make the cut for the event!

Meanwhile, if such weather persists even on the third day of play, i.e., on Saturday, yet another delay may be expected. Regrettably, this has been the case with all the events on the Florida Swing, including the Cognizant Classic, which saw three of its rounds delayed, along with the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which saw its final round suspended. However, the golfers who’ve fought tooth and nail in the past two days will certainly not give up hope.

As the 50th anniversary of THE PLAYERS Championship is underway at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler looks to become the first golfer to ever go back-to-back at THE PLAYERS after his impressive triumph at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Rory McIlroy was tied for first with two other fellow PGA Tour pros but seemed to have a sub-par day in the second round as he lost his lead to fall to 14th place, tied with seven others. He offset his five birdies with four bogeys and a double bogey, ending the round at 1-over par, 73.

On the other end, Wyndham Clark managed to hold on to his position at the top of the leaderboard, which he had shared yesterday with McIlroy and Xander Schauffele. Dishing out eight birdies on Friday, he carded a 7-under 65, which, in turn, helped him total a 14-under after two rounds.

Tailing Clark is none other than his Day 1 competition; Schauffele, who is 4 strokes behind him, tied for second with Nick Taylor after shooting a 69 on Friday. Undoubtedly, with two rounds still to go, a lot more shifts among the leaders could be expected. That is, of course, as long as the weather plays along!
