The 50th edition of The PLAYERS Championship is now just hours away! Renowned to have the strongest field at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course, the top 40 players on the PGA Tour are all in for an intense battle in southeast Florida. Unfortunately, the Tour has witnessed many murky starts to its events of late. And with them being because of the weather, and some even cut short, they could certainly use some ‘sunshine’ that the Sunshine State promises in general.

However, will that be the case for the rest of the week? Or is The PLAYERS Championship in for the same fate as its predecessors?

The PLAYERS Championship itself has had its fair share of weather hiccups. Last year, the Friday rounds were delayed due to heavy rain and finished only on Saturday morning. In 2022, too, the event’s final day was postponed to Monday thanks to troublesome weather. This time, however, that trend may break! It seems like The PLAYERS Championship has been blessed by the weather deities for Thursday.

The event will begin on Thursday, March 14th, for which the weather forecast predicts a sunny day with a 0% chance of precipitation. During the day, wind will be blowing from the northeast at speeds ranging from 8 to 15 mph.

Temperatures as per the day, according to the forecast, are quite pleasant too. They could go as high as 74F and fall as low as 62F, making fans believe in Florida’s Sunshine State name once more.

The days that follow, however, don’t see the skies as sunny, with a 20% chance of rain on Friday increasing over the weekend to 40% on Sunday. Aside from the wind, the event may even witness thunderstorms, with a 4% chance during round 2 and a 24% chance on the final day. Although this may seem troublesome, when compared to the recent Tour troubles, with three events entirely disrupted and delayed because of the unpredictable weather, The PLAYERS is in a great place!

Is the PGA Tour cursed with poor weather?

The first incident of bad weather that halted an event this year was at the second signature event, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The final round of the Pro-Am was delayed to Monday due to inclement weather. As the situation didn’t improve, the PGA Tour announced Wyndham Clark as the winner, since he was leading the scoreboard after three rounds.

The next weather disruption was at the WM Phoenix Open. The second round of the People’s Open was delayed because of unplayable conditions at the course, and then the third round found the same fate because there was an endless frost. Eventually, Nick Taylor won the event before darkness fell.

The most recent delay in the event because of weather was seen at the Cognizant Classic. The first round was suspended because of darkness, and the final round was canceled because of dangerous weather. The play resumed on Monday as Austin Eckroat earned his first win.

Fans will certainly hope that The PLAYERS does not add to this list. However, whether that will be the case, only time will tell!
