Dubbed as the fifth major, The PLAYERS Championship is a significant event on the PGA Tour calendar. The event takes place at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course at Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida. With a $25 million prize pool, which is the highest on the PGA Tour outside of the majors, the field is packed with the most exciting talent.

The last time at the PLAYERS, Scottie Scheffler rose above the pack to claim his second straight victory at the flagship event. He sure will be looking to make it three in a row this time around, but it won’t be without competition. Scheffler is teeing off in the same group as World No.2 Rory McIlroy and World No.3 Xander Schauffele. What a juicy group that is!

Let’s look at the rest of the field and the timings for when they start their bid to win the coveted title.

Favorites at the 2025 PLAYERS Championship

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, returning as the defending champion, is the favorite to win this tournament. His good form post-injury, like his T11 finish at API and T3 at Genesis, and his record at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course are key factors that put him firmly as the top contender.

Past winner Rory McIlroy has garnered a reputation as a big tournament player. He will be sure to pose a challenge to his tee-off partner. Based on current form, the likes of Collin Morikawa, Russel Henley, and Sepp Straka pose formidable threats to both Scheffler and McIlroy. A returning Xander Schauffele has yet to hit his previous form, but if he returns to his former best at Ponte Vedra, it could pose a further challenge for Scheffler.

Who do you have winning the PLAYERS Championship? Do you think that a new player could surprise the field and earn a coveted victory at the title? Or will it be one of the old heads showing their dominance on the course yet again?
