The PGA Championship win in May was just a trailer for Xander Schauffele. Now, he is a two-time major winner, finally lifting the Claret Jug at the fierce Royal Troon on Sunday. This came after a gruelling finish in the final round but what followed was a sentimental moment between the golfer and his father, Stefan.
As tradition goes, the 30-year-old couldn’t wait to drink out of the jug. But, the doting son decided to make his father part of the special festivities as well. After the win, Schauffele gave a shout-out to his father, saying, “I just can’t wait to drink out of it… My dad’s here with me, so I’m gonna let him do the honors. Whatever he wants… He’s going to have to figure out what he wants to put in there because he’s taking the first gulp out of it.”, he said.

2 months ago, the elder Schauffele was reduced to tears when his son edged past Bryson DeChambeau to lift the Wanamaker Trophy. “When the ogre is happy, he cries,” he told Golf Digest, referring to himself by his famous nickname. The only catch was that Stefan, who is also Xander Schauffele’s swing coach, was miles away from his son at the time. “Yeah, my parents have — they’re not here this week, but they know how important they are to me,” the PGA Tour pro had confessed back then. But the golfer will have no complaints this time around as his father was present right by his side throughout the 2024 Open Championship campaign.

It’s been a well-deserved stretch for Schauffele but another massive challenge awaits him. With all the majors out of the way, the golfer will now be switching his focus to the impending Paris Olympics.
Xander Schauffele has a second Olympic gold in sight
With the Olympics just a handful of days away, Schauffele along with Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, and others will be representing the States in Paris. He is not in the field for the 3M Open, which will be from 25th-28th of July, right before Paris. However, it’s safe to say that the 9x PGA Tour champion will not be getting any downtime before the Olympics.

The first round of the men’s golf event at the Olympics will be held on August 1st, Thursday. The final round will take place on August 4th, Sunday. This year, Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, which hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup, is the venue for the tournaments. Schauffele, who bagged a gold in Tokyo, will definitely hope to add another medal to his arsenal this summer.
