Will Bryson's 3D-printed irons give him the edge at The Open 2024?

Bryson DeChambeau is growing the game in every way he can! The press conference ahead of The Open stands testament to that. During the interview, the golf pro was asked whether he wished to influence the golf world through equipment design once his active playing career concluded. Responding to this, DeChambeau insinuated that news was on the way. He said, “Certainly we’re working on some things.” He then added, “Would I like to see it more in play around the world and across different amateurs, different levels? Absolutely. That’s the main goal. It’s not just going to be unique to me. It needs to be built for the individual.” And his announcement last night matched exactly that.

In collaboration with LA Golf, the LIV star is launching something new. No, this is not yet another league! Rather, it is something that unites all golfers together, no matter which league they play in: the golf equipment. Together, the 2-time major winner and LA Golf are launching a new driver that is breaking the perception of “one size fits all.” The new design will suit the individual’s swing. The concept bears a striking resemblance to DeChambeau’s custom-made irons!

The golfer has his own LA Golf series, which he is currently using. He first used these 3D-printed designs at the Masters earlier this season. Back then, DeChambeau noted, “I designed them with someone from back home, and they have just got a different curvature on the face than other equipment.” At the moment, the golfer uses Bryson Series iron shafts, which range from 3-iron to 8-iron and have a starting price of $151. His choice of fairway woods retails at $455.77 and is called the Bryson Series Woodshaft. The golfer also uses the $658.78 Bel-Air X Armlock and Malibu X. Aside from these, his bag also has a P-series shaft, which retails for $405.

Because DeChambeau has used most of this equipment for the majority of this year, it’s safe to assume that the Open Championship is not going to be an exception. It is likely he’ll stick to his 3D-printed gear that has aided him till now. And as for the rest of the golf world, he has big plans around this same idea.

Bryson DeChambeau believes that ” equipment that works for that individual is incredibly important

DeChambeau stated that the game of golf is for everybody, but their approach to it is extremely individual. Everybody’s game, everybody’s swing is different. That’s what makes this game so amazing,” he said. You can have somebody that looks completely awful with their golf swing, just absolutely pure it. And then you have somebody that has a perfect golf swing just can’t hit the face at all.”

However, developing the equipment in a way that suits every player according to their swing style will give them an upper hand. DeChambeau, in collaboration with LA Golf, is striving to achieve the objective of tailoring to these individual needs. “Building a golf piece of equipment that works for that individual is incredibly important, and that’s what I’ve personally realized, and I hope to transition over to the public golfer.”

Right now, it’s a driver. But undoubtedly, a set of irons, woods, and perhaps even a putter are on their way. Now wouldn’t that be something?
