Brian Harman, the American professional golfer, is attempting for his first Major win at the British Open. As the championship progresses to its last day, the excitement surrounding who might win it rises. While many golf enthusiasts are predicting out loud, others prefer keeping their hunches to themselves.

Superstitions and predictions are an integral part of sports. But the real deal is when they start coming true. Such is the case with a comedy legend, who, before his death, predicted a win for Brian Harman. Let’s find out who this person is and what he said.

Heading into his final round on Sunday at Royal Liverpool with a five-shot lead, Brian Harman is the biggest favorite to win the claret jug. He is leading over players like Cameron Young and John Rahm. Many are of the opinion that Harman will make things interesting at Hoylake; not exactly he will win. But one predicted a major win for him five years ago. Two years ago, the world lost one of its funniest people and the biggest golf fan to cancer. Norm Macdonald, a Canadian stand-up comedian, actor, and writer was an avid consumer of golf news, matches, and trivia, often live-tweeting his game predictions. The comedian claimed nobody knows golf more than him. His Twitter fans were even pushing him to become a golf analyst. His tweet from five years ago recently caught the golf world’s attention.

While debating about Tiger Woods on Twitter, the former SNL star redirected the conversation toward Brian Harman. He defended the golfer’s lack of height. When the American golfer thanked him, Norm wrote: “I love watching you, Brian. You have it all. You can hit it a mile and feather it around the greens, but what will win you your majors, the Masters likely being your first, is your easy perfection with the blade. Respect.”

As Harman enters the last round on Sunday at the Open Championship, the prediction about him winning a major seems to be spot on.

After Bob Charles and Phil Mickelson, would Brian Harman join the list?

Steady rain is expected all day Sunday at the Royal Liverpool, making the matches much more exciting. One might not get to see many low scores. If Brian Harman wins the British Open, it will be the 36-year-old’s biggest win to date. The Open Championship claret jug will put him in the same list of left-hand winners as legends Bob Charles (1963) and Phil Mickelson (2013).

History suggests that victory for Harman is on the way. According to ESPN, he is the tenth golfer to have retained a five-shot lead after playing the second and third rounds of the majors. The nine players before him, who were in a similar position, went on to win. One of the most recent examples is Brooks Koepka, who secured victory at the 2019 PGA Championship.

If Norm Macdonald were alive today, he might have been rooting for Brian Harman in person. The possibilities make the last day much more anticipatory and it is unimaginable what we will get to see from fans if Harman wins and Norm’s predictions come true.
