Tiger Woods has been absent from the majors scene this year. The only major he was a part of was the Masters in April, where he managed to make the cut, but had to withdraw due to his plantar fasciitis injury.

And owing to the ongoing struggles with recovery post surgery, Woods won’t be competing in the upcoming major as well. It goes without saying that the leg and ankle injury that Woods faced due to the car crash accident is one of the main aspects hampering his gameplay.

Not just that, this year, the 47-year-old golfer has not taken part in any PGA Tour event except the Genesis Open and the Masters.

Two weeks later, he had to undergo ankle surgery to reduce the pain. However, given his age, there were some doubts about whether he would be able to participate in further tournaments. Experts from the field have already given high hopes that he will come back to demonstrate his skills. But it seems like it will still take him more time to fully recover and start playing.

As far as the Open Tournament is concerned, Woods’ Instagram fan page “twspot” has already given its statement. And the R&A spokesperson has also confirmed that the 82-time PGA Tour winner won’t take part in the Open.

Moving further, since Woods had to face a bad phase in his life, his performance and OWGR positioning have also been greatly affected, marking his rank at World No.1110. Nevertheless, Woods’s 2019 Masters Tournament victory which is one of the criteria to get an entry (winners of the last five Masters tournaments get an entry) qualifies him for the 2023 Open Championship event.

The top golfers that are going to make their way at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club had to undergo various hardships. This includes high-level dedication, weeks of practice, and qualifying for the Open.

According to National Club Golfer, if a golfer is under 60 years of age and has won previously in the said event, he can get a spot to play this year. Next, those players who have earned top-10 finishes in last year’s Open Championship can also take part in the tournament.

A direct entrance is also available to anyone with a rank under 50 in the 21st week of the OWGR calendar. Lastly, the doors are also open to professional golfers as well as amateur golfers who have a handicap not exceeding 0.4.
