Jon Rahm did not get off to a good start at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club on Thursday. The World No. 3 carded a disappointing 3-over 74, which he then followed up with a 1-under 70. The golfer wasn’t too pleased with his form either, dropping an F-bomb at the 10th hole on the second day.
However, Rahm isn’t one to go down without a fight, as was evidenced by his performance in the third round. Not only has the 28-year-old exceptionally turned things around, but he has also scripted a feat never before accomplished at Hoylake. Let’s jump in to find out more!

After 36 holes at the 151st Open, Jon Rahm stood at 2-over 144, barely inside the 3-over cutline. “2-over or 2-under makes a massive difference right now in the score,” the Spaniard had later confessed, knowing very well that he would have to come out all guns blazing on the third day to be in contention for the title. And he did just that!
Previously, Open Championship editions at Hoylake had just seen a handful of 65s (Tiger Woods’ second-round score from 2006 among them). Nobody had ever managed to pull off a 64 at the Merseyside course until Rahm on Saturday. The golfer even went one better, shooting a blistering 8-under 63 to surge up to the second place on the leaderboard at the time he finished.

During his round, Rahm put out an amazing performance on the turn; putts of 22, 14, 4, and 4 giving him four straight birdies. His finish was sensational as well. The Masters winner birdied the 15th, holed in a 35-foot birdie putt on No. 16, and wrapped things up with a closing birdie.
Back in contention for the third major of his career, Rahm’s spirits are undoubtedly much better than they were on Friday. While he started four hours before the leaders today, in a tie for 39th place, the golfer will now be teeing off right in among them on the final day.
Jon Rahm’s expletives-laden moment at the Open takes the internet by storm
“The most brilliant word in spoken language history,” a Twitter comment read under a clip showing Jon Rahm dropping an F-bomb during his second round at Hoylake. The outburst took place after the golfer failed to make par on hole no. 10. “Apologies for any language there,” the announcer said shortly after the moment.

It was the second time this week that the golf world had seen Rahm venting his frustrations. Earlier, the 11-time PGA Tour winner had gone off on media members who were following Rory McIlroy, his pairing partner in the first round.
Currently, at 6-under, Rahm will be vying to nab his first-ever Claret Jug on Sunday. This year, the tournament features a purse of $16.5 million, out of which the winner will get to take home $3 million in earnings.
