The Masters Tournament is one of the most famous and much awaited golf competitions of the year. While it is held annually at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, the tournament brings together the best golfers from around the world to compete for the coveted green jacket.

For any golfer, earning a spot in the Masters Tournament is a major accomplishment because it is a distinctive and one-of-a-kind competition. A golfer’s career is defined by winning the Masters, which is regarded as one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions. However, to play in the Masters the players have to meet a certain qualifying criterion. And a new Masters qualification criteria for 2024 has the fans all riled up!

Additions to the Masters 2024 qualification criteria invited scrutiny from fans

Players who want to compete in the Masters Tournament must fulfill a number of requirements. It includes having won the Masters Tournament in the past, being the current champion of another major tournament, being among the top players in the Official World Golf Ranking, winning PGA Tour tournaments, and being amateur champions. International golfers who haven’t otherwise qualified may also receive invitations from The Masters Committee.

However, with The Masters 2023 already ongoing, The Masters Committee have already released the qualification criteria for 2024 Masters. The list mostly contains the similar criteria as the current one. However, some evident changes can be seen too. These changes have come unexpectedly to the golf world.

The changes include the qualification for the current NCAA Division 1 Men’s Individual Champion (one year). Second addition is the individual winners of PGA Tour events that award a full-point allocation, from previous Masters to current Masters. And the final new criteria encompasses those qualifying and eligible for the previous year’s season-ending Tour Championship.

While The Masters Committee plans to increase the competition, it surely is not looking well. Rather, the current changes have surely made a negative impact already and has received backlashes.

Fans react to the intended 2024 Masters Tournament qualifications

Soon after the releasing of the qualification list, it instantly came into spotlight online. While the fans took to their social media handles, they revealed their disappointment and anger towards the changes in the qualifications.
