After players of LIV Golf were allowed to play in the Masters Tournament 2023, people in the golf fraternity had their doubts about the decision. Against Justin Thomas’s quality remarks, LIV Golf players have now shown that they are in fact quality players as 12 out of 18 of them have made the cut at The Masters.

Justin Thomas’s “Quality” Remark Backfires

On Saturday at Augusta National, Justin Thomas along with Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau failed to make the cut for the weekend play at The Masters. Despite looking like Thomas would make the cut after 27 holes with a score of (-2), his game began to falter as the weather worsened. He made a double bogey at the 11th hole and a bogey at the 12th, causing him to go over par and struggle through the remaining holes, resulting in a 6-over 78 score.

Thomas’ bogey at the 17th hole raised the cutline to +3, which ended up saving his friend Tiger Woods and other players from elimination. In order to make the cut himself, Thomas needed to achieve no worse than par at the 18th hole, but he missed the green and left his par putt short. This was the first time in his eight appearances at the Masters that Thomas failed to make the cut.

It feels right to say that this number is setting the right trajectory for the LIV Golf as a league and it indeed is a “pretty big story”.

Justin Thomas takes a dig at LIV Golf

Justin Thomas made some controversial comments about the quality of players that play in LIV Golf. He commented hysterically, “Well, we have an astronomically higher amount of quality players than they do in their events”.  The comment was the result of the dig that LIV Golf took at the PGA Tour for making radical changes to their schedule. “But there’s a lot more going on over the course of an entire year on the PGA Tour than just the elevated events, I would say”, mentioned Thomas.
