Some sportspeople usually acquire an ego and a changed attitude once they reach stardom. But that is not the case for the Spanish golfer, Jon Rahm. The Spaniard has won the first green jacket of his golfing career and is on cloud nine..but in a good way. He is enjoying every little moment, and Golf Digest has shared the specifics.
Jon Rahm is excited about the next chapter
72 hours after winning the 87th Masters Tournament, Rahm has joined an elite club. He received a congratulatory message from tennis legend, Rafael Nadal. Winning Masters has brought many other perks, like receiving honorary membership at Augusta National and also an opportunity to plan the Champions Dinner menu with a celebrity chef next year. Despite all this, his humble nature still shines bright.

Rahm is living his dream. He never expected things to change so drastically around him after winning the iconic Tournament. Even though many players told him this would happen, he is still in amazement. Instead of losing himself, he is embracing it all. In a second interview with Jim Nantz, the 2020 Memorial Tournament winner confessed, “The excitement they feel once they see you and how badly they want a picture or an autograph is significantly higher than it was before.”

Comparing it to his expectations, Rahm said, “I’ve never had as many people watching me in the pro-am [Wednesday] apart from the Phoenix Open [where Rahm is celebrated as an Arizona State alum].” Many golfers like Rory McIlroy and Jason Day have withdrawn from RBC Heritage. But Rahm will play in the sixth official competition of the year. He won’t get to relax, but he is excited about it, because he made a commitment, and wants to stick with it. Since Jordan Spieth’s victory in 2015, no Masters champion has played at Harbour Town.
The humbleness goes beyond the PGA Tour
Despite winning $3.24M, Rahm is sticking to the ground instead of floating in the air with pride. And the true testament to that was his subtle tribute to his fellow Spanish golfer, Sergio Garcia. During his post-tournament conference, he was asked about his victory. He gave credit to hope and said, “I think the main thing, something that gave me a lot of hope, and that kind of started when Sergio won in ’17.” Rahm surprised everyone by saying that the LIV defector was the fuel behind his hope. “…pretty much every great-name Spanish player has won here,” the pro golfer added.
