One golfer has arguably stolen the hearts of the entire golf world of late: Jon Rahm. The Spaniard has been nothing short of brilliant this season. His latest win came earlier this month at the Masters. And with his Augusta victory, he won a lot more than just the trophy, like the coveted traditions of the Champions Dinner and the Champions Lockers. And about it all, he had just one request, which showed his true patriotism towards Spain.
Jon Rahm: A true Spaniard
Brilliantly, Rahm won his first Green Jacket two weeks ago. And his speech at the winner’s ceremony was just as impressive. Post his win, he had a heartwarming speech in which he paid homage to Seve Ballesteros, the first-ever Spanish Masters winner.

But that speech wasn’t the only time Rahm thought of the Spanish great that day. Post-event, when he headed up to the exclusive Champions Locker Room, once again, Ballesteros came to mind because of the lockers. In the locker room that is only for Green Jacket holders, the golfer shares lockers with others. Ballesteros shared his with the South African golfer, Charl Schwartzel, while the only other two Spanish winners were Sergio Garcia and José Mara Olazábal.
Rahm couldn’t help but wish he was paired up with Ballesteros so as to keep the Spanish men together. “I was like, listen, I can’t tell you guys what to do, but can you please put me with the Spanish guys?” he said in the most recent episode of the Golf Sub Par podcast, recanting the scene from that day. “There’s four of us obviously, perfectly put us in there will be amazing.”

Rahm explained that he believed the four Spaniards clubbed together would have been amazing. “I don’t care if you put me with Oli, Sergio, Seve,” he stated. But, I mean, I feel like it’s right.” He added that he meant no offense to Schwartzel, who currently shares a locker with Ballesteros, but he would love to take his place. “I thought it’d be really cool if they could put me with Seve, especially with everything,” he stated.
Indeed, Rahm’s speech paid true homage to the Spanish legend, his hero. “This one was for Seve. He was up there helping, and help he did,” he had said, tearing up. And after that, perhaps he did deserve to share Ballesteros. “It’d be really cool to share with the Spanish guys,” he said in the podcast!
