The road to the Masters this year has unquestionably been a rollercoaster ride. With the controversial invite of the LIV Golf defectors to the event and golf legend Tiger Woods almost certain to take the course, the golf world has witnessed many highs and lows in recent times. And now, with just days left until the event and excitement at its peak, another update emerges. This time about a vital health update on a 76-year-old Masters legend.

A Masters legend drops a huge health update

The Augusta event has given rise to several golf legends. From Tiger Woods to Jack Nicklaus, many have made history at the event and cemented their names in the hearts of the golf world. But there is also one who is not a golf pro and has done so. Carl Jackson. The man was a caddie at Augusta National and created a legacy for himself by making 54 appearances at the Masters, skipping only one since starting there in 1961 at the age of 14.

On Friday this week, Jackson was on his way to Augusta from Arkansas, where he lives in Roland when he met with an unfortunate accident. His car collided with a vehicle that was stopped on Interstate 20. The caddie’s car was completely totaled in the accident. Fortunately for Jackson, he didn’t suffer as badly as his car did. He is now in good condition, as per a recent USA Today report.

He was supposed to caddie for the golf great, Ben Crenshaw, next week at the Masters during the par-3 tournament. And now that he’s feeling good, he still plans to do so! But when the PGA Tour veteran heard of the news, he was horrified, not because he had lost his caddie, but because he and Jackson were more than that.

Crenshaw and Jackson shared many memorable times on the course at Augusta in the past. The 19-time PGA Tour winner even won the Masters twice, in 1984 and 1995, with Jackson holding his bag. Upon hearing the news on Friday, Crenshaw was more than worried. “I was worried sick,” he texted.

The golf great’s wife, Julie, was also extremely upset. After all, the caddie had grown to become quite close to them over the years. “A car is replaceable!” exclaimed Julie. “We’re just so thankful Carl is OK. That’s all that matters.”
