The golf world is experiencing one such event right now as two-time major championship winner, Sandy Lyle, is retiring from the professional golf.

Earlier this year, the former Masters champion took the decision to end his career after this year’s Masters. Since then, fans and other golfers have been looking forward for Lyle’s final outing at his 42nd Masters appearance. With the Masters ongoing, other Masters champions, friends and other former golfers have provided their good words to Lyle before he ends his 46 years long career.

DP World Tour uploaded a video of various golfers congratulating the 1988 Masters winner. The list included the likes of Bernhard Langer, Sir Nick Faldo and other Masters heroes and friends. They congratulated and bid farewell to Lyle ahead of his last game.

Larry Mize, who is also playing his last Masters, said, “It’s hard to believe it’s been over 40 years since you’ve first played in the Masters. But here we go, our last Masters. It was my pleasure to put the jacket on you in 1988.” Two-time Masters champion, Bernhard Langer said, “We will miss you. I wish you all the best for your retirement.”

Sir Nick Faldo also bade his farewell to Lyle and said, “Enjoy your retirement up there in your wee castle in Bonnie, Scotland. If I’m ever passing by, I’ll pop in for a cup of tea or maybe something stronger. Alright, take care. Cheers.”

This year’s 87th Masters marks Lyle’s 42nd Masters appearance. As the 1988 Masters winner is retiring after this year’s, the atmosphere at the Augusta National was pumped up for his farewell appearance. While coming on the course on Friday, Lyle was welcomed with a standing ovation.

However, the weather had different plans. The play was suspended due to the ominous weather and chants of “let him putt” were heard all around, as the ANGC officials interrupted his moment of glory. If the weather conditions improve, we will see Lyle finishing his second round on Saturday or Sunday.
