Tiger Woods is currently playing his 25th Masters Tournament, having won 5 of them in his career. He is also the youngest golfer in history to win The Masters Tournament back in 1997. But despite his stellar career, his heath has evaded him for a long time now. He is still healing from his 2021 car crash, among the other injuries and surgeries, that have deteriorated his health and form significantly.
And owing to his health concerns, for the first time ever in his professional career, Woods did not beat the field scoring average in the first round at the Masters!

Woods appeared exhausted as he walked up the challenging 495-yard hole, resulting in his approach falling short of the intended target. His birdie attempt and subsequent par try also failed to hit the mark, with his playing partners, Victor Hovland and Xander Schauffele, having an easier time with the hole.
This was no surprise, as the fifth hole, Magnolia, is known to be one of the course’s toughest. As the group moved on to the next hole, it became evident that Woods was struggling while his companions appeared composed and at ease. Woods ended up with a 74, which was only slightly improved by a late rally, while the rest of the Masters field performed exceptionally well.
“I felt like I drove it good. I just didn’t do the job I need to do to get the ball close,” Woods commented on Thursday afternoon. “Today was the opportune time to get the ball—get the round under par, and I didn’t do that today. Most of the guys are going low today. This was the day to do it.”
Tiger Woods shot 74 today. The field average was 72.34.
It's the first time in Woods' professional career he did not beat the field scoring average in the first round at the Masters.

Tiger Woods’ historic win at the Masters
In Augusta, Georgia, on April 13, 1997, a 21-year-old Tiger Woods achieved a remarkable feat by winning the esteemed Masters Tournament with a stunning 12-stroke lead. This win marked his debut victory in any of the four major golf championships including the U.S. Open, the British Open, the PGA Championship, and the Masters, and it was considered the most outstanding performance by a professional golfer in over a hundred years. Furthermore, he became the youngest player to win the Masters by a margin of two years, and the first individual with either Asian or African roots to win a major championship.
