As the 87th edition of the Masters tournament draws near, fans wonder whether LIV golfers will be sporting their various team logos this year. On Monday, the two-time major champion and LIV golfer, Dustin Johnson, was spotted wearing his team logo during practice rounds.

After a 15-year-long relationship, Johnson parted from apparel sponsor, Adidas, last month. In February, Adidas Golf president, Jeff Lienhart, confirmed the news, with reports terming the separation as an ‘amicable’ one.

38-year-old Johnson was among the first big names to jump ship from the PGA Tour to LIV golf. Owing to his defection, the 2020 Masters champion drew backlash from fans and critics alike. After his move to the Saudi-backed breakaway series, he also parted ways with his $20,000,000 worth sponsor, Adidas.

“We’ve mutually agreed to part ways with long-time Adidas athlete, Dustin Johnson. For more than 15 years, Dustin has been a great ambassador for the Adidas brand,” shared Lienhart in an interview with ESPN. “We wish Dustin nothing but success moving forward.”

Currently, the golfer is the captain of the 4Aces team in LIV Golf, which won the LIV Golf Team’s championship last year. During the practice rounds on Monday, Johnson made a bold statement about players sporting the LIV golf gear at the Masters.

Whoever wears them,” Johnson revealed. “Yeah, I mean, I’m just going to wear the Aces.

After parting ways with Adidas, Johnson has found a new sponsor in Extracurricular, a company well-known for their golf apparel offerings. The brand will be sponsoring the 4Aces team going forward. The Extracurricular logo was spotted on the golfer’s polo shirt on Monday.

Experts believe this move will help boost LIV Golf’s visibility at major tournaments like the Masters. Deals surrounding individual players will eventually pave the way for team-wide deals.

Johnson rubbishes claims of bad blood with PGA golfers

Like fellow LIV players, Johnson has also discredited claims of bad blood with golfers from the PGA Tour. The player claimed he shared a good camaraderie with PGA golfers, owing to their long history. Johnson said, “I’ve played a long time with all these guys. So, if I’m playing how I should, I’ll be right there at the end.”

The golfer is confident that there is no awkwardness between the players from the two factions. However, tensions will rise when LIV stars go head-to-head against their former compatriots.
