Cameron Smith reveals the main reason behind his PGA Tour defection
Last year, Smith’s move to LIV golf came as a big disappointment to fans. The reigning British Open champion was at the end of harsh criticism from fans and critics alike. Per Smith’s detractors, LIV golfers don’t play enough “real golf” to have good outings at the Augusta National this year. The golfer has hit back at these remarks, terming them as “BS.”
The 29-year-old has now revealed the primary motive behind the much-controversial $100,000,000-plus PGA Tour defection. Speaking to Sky Sports Golf, the Aussie shared that he joined the Saudi-backed series to “spend more time with his friends and family.”

World no. 6 also confirmed that he “wouldn’t change a thing” about his decision. However, Smith also shared that he still reminisced about some things from the PGA Tour. “I miss a couple of tournaments,” revealed the golfer. “Obviously the players. Other than that, I am really happy with where I am at.”

Speaking about LIV’s 48-man, 54-hole no-cut event, Smith said, “I’m the first to say the fields aren’t as strong. But we’ve still got a lot of guys that can play some really serious golf.” Two-time major champion and LIV boss Greg Norman expressed that if a LIV golfer claimed the much-coveted Green Jacket this year, “the other 17 will hang around and be there to congratulate him around the 18th green.”
