The Champions Dinner is one of the most celebrated occasions in golf! It’s the Pre-Game Show before the Super Bowl, the Parade of Nations before the Olympics, and the Pre-Match Ceremony before a soccer World Cup. It’s the one time every fan is interested in an event that doesn’t involve long drives and crazy putts. Every year, on the Tuesday before the Masters Tournament tee-off, the past champions gather to celebrate the grand occasion of the most prestigious tournament in golf.
The event pays respect to every winner of the green jacket event, but the most honorable guest is the most recent champion. This year, it will be Scottie Scheffler. And to honor his win in 2024, the dinner served at Augusta National has been personally designed by the world no. 1. This year, Scheffler has an interesting addition to his menu from a that he served a couple of years ago. The 13x PGA Tour winner has added “Papa Scheff’s Meatball & Ravioli Bites,” which received a lot of laughs from the fans. Most of them remember the hilarious Christmas ravioli accident that kept Scheffler away from action for the first month of January.
The world No. 1 may have given the fans something to chuckle about, but his dinner menu is certainly mouth-watering. But that has not been the case for many of the past champions. Some have presented menus that received a lot of criticism from the community. Let’s take a look at five of the worst Champions Dinner menus planned by the last champions.

Tiger Woods in 1998
Tiger Woods was only 21 when he won his first Masters Tournament in 1997. A year later, he became the honored guest for the Champions Dinner. Still only 22 at that time, the GOAT might not have had an experienced pallet back then. But his choice of cheeseburgers and grilled chicken sandwiches with French fries, strawberry and vanilla milkshakes certainly lacked depth. Tiger Woods certainly planned one of the worst menus served in the Dinner of Champions.

Nick Faldo in 1997
1996 was the last time Sir Nick Faldo won the Masters Championship. And for his last Champions Dinner a year later, the Brit decided to delve into his English roots. However, his peers and fellow champions of the Masters Tournament paid the price for it. According to Golf Compendium, Faldo served them with tomato soup and fish & chips. While any Englishman would have loved to have this on an ordinary weekend, serving it up for the Champions Dinner is certainly not the best option. As one can imagine, the former champions, a list that included only one Briton in Sir Nick Faldo, didn’t have the best time during the event.
Nick Faldo in 1990
The first time Sir Nick Faldo won the green jacket event, he might not have been prepared to host the Champions Dinner. That is the only reason we believe that he chose to serve the guests Shepherd’s Pie in 1990. No, there was no other item on the menu. Faldo only had Shepherd’s Pie, another British favorite, to serve to the past champions. This definitely justifies his position in the top 3 of the worst Champions Dinner menus.

Larry Mize in 1988
In 1987, the past year’s winner, Jack Nicklaus, served up a spectacular feast for the Champions Dinner. He had 19 different dishes served across a 4-course meal. This includes 6 different kinds of desserts to end the meal blissfully. A year later, Larry Mize followed it up with Steak and Peach Cobbler. The stark contrast between both menus shows how an exclusive event like the Champions Dinner can be a roller-coaster ride. The past champions were obviously disappointed as they were hoping Mize would compete with Nicklaus and deliver another amazing feast. That’s why it makes it to the second spot on this list.

Bubba Watson
The RangeGoats GC captain won the Masters Tournament twice in his career, in 2012 and 2014. A year after both his wins, Bubba Watson was the honored guest at the Champions Dinner. And on both occasions, the Baghdad local had the same menu. Watson served a traditional Caesar salad; grilled chicken breast with green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, macaroni & cheese, cornbread, confetti cake, and vanilla ice cream. The very basic dishes listed by the 12x PGA Tour winner received a lot of criticism on both occasions. Sir Nick Faldo called it a “happy meal” and was also quoted saying that he had attended a “Chuck E. Cheese” dinner. Adam Scott had also mentioned how Watson had a year to plan his dinner, and he was surprised by the lack of imagination in it. The 46-year-old has undoubtedly served the worst Champions Dinner in the history of the event.
