Houston, the most populous city in Texas and the Southern United States, is set to host the next event of LIV Golf from June 7th to 9th. The event’s conclusion will align perfectly with the qualified LIV golfers’ opportunity to tee up at Pinehurst for the US Open. Beyond the substantial purse of $25 million, the venue, the Golf Club of Houston, a private GC, is also a point of interest worth noting.

The original 18 holes at this location were designed by George Fazio in 1964 as part of El Dorado Country Club, which also featured a log cabin-style clubhouse. However, in the early 1990s, El Dorado Country Club fell victim to economic struggles due to the oil bust. It was then subsequently established in July 2002, with a new 18-hole course designed by Jacobsen-Hardy Golf Design and came to be known as Redstone Golf Club.

In April 2013, Escalante Golf of Fort Worth purchased the property, and in December, it was renamed the Golf Club of Houston. Ranked among the top 50 courses in Texas and recognized as one of the premier public courses in the state by Golf Digest, this venue holds the distinction of being the first in Texas to host a LIV Golf tournament.
With multi-tiered greens, strategic bunkers, and numerous water hazards, this 7,403-yard course provides a challenging layout. Notable features include the driveable 315-yard par-4 12th hole, as well as the 485-yard par-4 18th, where a lake flanks the left side of the fairway and borders the entire left side of the green. Between 2003 and 2019, the course served as the venue for the Houston Open, witnessing victories from LIV pros such as Paul Casey in 2009, Anthony Kim in 2010, and Phil Mickelson in 2011.
At this golf club, Mini Verde grass carpets the greens while Tif Sport covers all other areas, promising a projected speed of 12 on the stimpmeter. Situated in the hometown city of LIV Golfer Patrick Reed, the course offers a range of additional features, complementing its impressive golf experience.
