This is a very important week for LIV Golf. The finale is here at LIV Golf Miami, and the 12 teams have already started fighting hard for the ultimate $50 million prize purse. And for Phil Mickelson, who is searching for a big win while being the captain and guide for his team, this is a crucial event.

Yesterday, his team didn’t exactly have the best day on the Blue Monster course at Doral. His own face-off with Brooks Koepka, who is the recent LIV Jeddah champion, was tough, but Lefty is far from throwing in the towel. Despite the hardships, his revamped team seems to be staying strong and bonding!

LIV Miami is arguably the most important event for Mickelson and his team, HyFlyers GC. This year, neither the LIV star individually nor with his team was able to grab a win. If they take home a win this week at the $50 million event, then it could turn the tables for each of the team’s members.

This year, Lefty was given two new players (Brendan Steele and James Piot), which changed HyFlyers GC’s look from last year. With the new faces in the lineup compared to the team last year, he was asked about whether there was a different feeling amongst the team.

Responding to this, Phil Mickelson stated that his team has been getting along well throughout the season, and he was happy for the change. We’re having a lot of fun, and we’ve been playing better each week throughout the year, and we’ve started to build a lot of momentum, and we had a great day today,” he said enthusiastically. “It was great to see the way Camo finished off the match and played some solid golf as well as the way Steeley and Riot worked together on playing a good solid round of alternate shot.”

At the beginning of the 2022 season last year, Mickelson’s team looked completely different. Ahead of the 2023 events, players from many teams across LIV were shuffled around, and multiple teams saw revamps. Of course, Lefty’s HyFlyers was one of the few to see a complete turnaround!

Who is part of Mickelson’s team in 2023?

This year, Cameron Tringale continued to be on the Mickelson team, but he got Brendan Steele, who has won three times on the PGA Tour, and James Piot, who is the 2021 US Amateur winner. Exchanged were his earlier teammates Bernd Wiesberger, who went to Cleeks GC, and Matthew Wolff, who joined Smash GC this year.

Praising his team’s bonding and expectations, Mickelson added, “We’re having a lot of fun. We know how good the Aces are. We know we’re going to have tough matches tomorrow, but we’re looking forward to the chance, and we’re excited that we played well enough today to have it.”
