The 2023 CPKC Women’s Open has finally ended. The field was full of top golfers. And at last, the emerging star, Megan Khang, won her maiden title. In a playoff match, she prevailed over Jin Young Ko, earning the winner’s share of the $2.5 prize money.

The victory was special, especially looking at Khang’s past record. 33 top-10 finishes in her career is an incredible number. Her most recent top result was a T3 at the Women’s PGA Championship. Her exceptional games in the last two years made her a blazing star and also gave her a well-deserved win.

Not only that, she will also represent the American team in the upcoming Solheim Cup. However, a few other players, including Lexi Thompson, also have some cheerful news to share amidst all of Khang’s magnificence. Let’s find out!

Who else is joining Megan Khang in the Solheim Cup?

Lexi Thompson is not having a great time this year. She mostly missed the cut in the majors and also in the CP Women’s Open. However, she is presently ranked seventh in the LPGA. Her fans couldn’t keep calm because their star is also on the US team. Thompson was awarded the eighth slot in the US Solheim Cup based on her global ranking.

Her 2022 season is the reason for her high global rating. She had four runner-up finishes, including the 2022 KMPG Women’s PGA Championship.

“Golf is such an individual sport; it helps to have someone with experience to help out and interact with the other players,” said Thompson. “I hope to bring strength and determination, too, and being there for the other girls.”

A sweet ending for Andrea Lee

This competition is also very special for Andrea Lee. She needed to place 13th to earn a position on the US team for the first time. After a long day of struggle, she tied for 13th and earned a spot in one of the seven automatic qualifying spots for the US team. This will be her first game in the Solheim Cup.

“I’ve been playing really solid golf, and this course requires hitting fairways and hitting greens, trying to make as many birdies as possible,” Lee said. “I just tried to stay really patient out there and put a solid round together today.”
