The 44th edition of the Ryder Cup is just around the corner and is fast approaching in all its glory. The teams are set, the venue is locked, and all that is left is to wait for September 29 to come so that the event can finally commence. Once every two years, the 12 European golfers and the 12 American golfers come up against each other to fight for the highly coveted title.

But it appears that this time, there will be another brutal competitor in the queue too, apart from the European and American squads! Wondering what or who it is? Let us tell you!

As per tradition and format, the Ryder Cup sees the best European and American golfers divided into two teams of 12, but this time, along with competing against each other, the teams will be competing against Marco Simone Golf Club’s rough as well.

Flushing It, a popular Twitter golf page, posted a video of the nugget of brutal rough at the venue and wrote, “The rough at Ryder Cup venue looks brutal. Welcome to the jungle, we’ve got fun and games!”

In the video, a person throws a ball into a chunk of grass to show how deep and full it is. Just as the person throws the ball, it immediately disappears into the long, green grass. The person gives an upward view of the rough as well, and the ball is yet nowhere to be seen. No European Ryder Cup venue would indeed be complete without thick rough, and Marco Simone Golf Club just delivered it.

During the scouting trip, the USA team also got a hold of the aforementioned rough, as the team’s captain commented on it and said that they had a long discussion about it. He said, “The rough was very thick. That was the other nugget that we talked about a lot.” The USA Team’s trip to the 2023 Ryder Cup venue seemed like a huge success, as it really served its purpose.

The American team had a successful trip to Rome, Italy

Just for a couple of days, Zach Johnson and nine members of his team went on a scouting trip to Marco Simone. The golfers got a few practice rounds in and became familiar with the course. The purpose of this scouting trip, as shared by Johnson, was to build team chemistry and get the team well-accustomed to the home of competition.
