Prior to the game this weekend, Rickie Fowler and Lexi Thompson sat down for a Q&A session with the media. The players discussed their year on the PGA and LPGA Tour, respectively, and answered how useful their off-season time has been in relation to keeping them sharp for the 2024 leg of pro golfing.

Taking the question first, Fowler first talked about his post-Ryder Cup activities, revealing that since the season concluded in August, he played only once until last week. He added that this period has given him the opportunity to assess his game and identify areas for improvement. The player added, “It’s kind of a nice time to see where things are at, what needs to be worked on a little bit more, or what needs to have a little bit more time.” Fowler also stated that he plans to conduct further testing in the coming weeks to “fine-tune” his game in preparation for the West Coast Swing in January.

Answering the question next, Thompson discussed her current phase in the mid-offseason, highlighting her recent play three weeks ago in Tampa and subsequent continuous practice. The golfer added, “I’ve played in a bunch of pro-ams since then and just been still practicing because I want to play well here. I’ll have a few weeks off after this. I’ll start up the third week of January.” Further emphasizing the importance of rest and reset, Thompson acknowledged the necessity of shutting down briefly to ensure she is fully prepared for the challenges of the 2024 season. “It’s definitely nice to come here and put my game to the test and know what I have to work on in the off-season,” the golfer concluded.

Amidst the preparations, Fowler also took a moment to share his thoughts on Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf deal. The unfolding developments in the golfing world, both on and off the course, add an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming challenges.

The golfer also talked about how Rahm’s decision doesn’t directly impact him and expressed curiosity about how the situation will unfold, especially considering the deadline for the PGAT and LIV Golf deals at the end of the year. “As far as all the other stuff that’s going around in golf, from LIV to the TOUR to golf ball stuff, USGA, R&A, we’ll worry about that away from the golf course or next week over a little bit of a break,” the player concluded.
