Woods’ US Open 2008 video re-emerges hours before the 2023 edition

Tiger has diverse titles besides his name. But the victory in the US Open 2008 surely remains second to none. By defeating Rocco Mediate, he claimed what is known to be his greatest major championship. Though, the event for Woods and his followers was filled with both ecstasy and agony. The situation of joy was accompanied by concern for his grave injury.

The tough decision though did not stop the admiration for the star from pouring in. His impressive win was applauded by the then viewers all across, along with Tennis legend Rafael Nadal. Admiring Woods’ resilient nature, Nadal had remarked Only Tiger Can Do This, referring to the golfer’s unbelievable success in the 2008 tournament.

The re-emerged video from the Twitter account NUCLR Golf though proves that not everyone around Woods was in favor of him getting back on the greens. Steve Williams, Woods’ caddie at that time, in the said video is seen advising the golfer to refrain from playing.  He revealed, “I said to him, ‘Hey Tiger, you might be jeopardizing your career here. Maybe this is a time to quit.'”

It is the response of the golf star that truly reflects what a true legend of the game he is. Williams’ added, “And I’ll never forget: He looks at me and he says, ‘Stevie, f— you, I’m winning this tournament.'” It’s not every day the golf field gets to witness a man with a severely bad case of the knee but a strong mindset lift a Championship Trophy. The prefix of a legend before Tiger’s name completely makes sense.

He has dedicated his passion to the game that is sure to inspire generations to come. Fans, however, 15 years later, due to his persistent absence from the field feel that maybe Williams was right to ask Woods to quit back at Torrey Pines.

Under the tweet of the video that appeared again after more than a decade, fans were quick to join in with their opinions about Tiger’s career-altering decision. One of the fans praised the golf GOAT as “the best to ever swing a golf club“, and another enthusiast chimed in with, “Greatest ever.” Some other fans were also quick to show their loyalty to the golfer, praising the legend and believing how incomplete the game would be without his contributions. They tweeted-

However,  a few of the commenters seemed to believe that Steve Williams’ prediction of Tiger ‘jeopardizing‘ his career had come true.
