The 2025 season of the Korn Ferry Tour has kicked off in the Bahamas! The best talents in the league are fighting it off at the season-opening event for title glory. Last season, fans saw Matt McCarty dominate the league and top the Points List to secure his PGA Tour card and a place in the subsequent Players Championship and the U.S. Open. 19 other players who also only received their PGA Tour cards joined him.
The cycle has begun again as 144 more players are at the Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas to start their year-long journey for a top-20 finish. But that is not all they are fighting for this weekend. The pros also have the opportunity to win The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic and the highest winnings from the $1 million purse. So what will each of the top 65 players on the field win this weekend? Let’s take a look at the prize money breakdown to learn about that.

Being the first event of the Korn Ferry Tour season, The Bahamas Golf Classic is the perfect stage for the pros to start climbing up the ladder. As per the Korn Ferry Tour Prize Money Distribution Chart, the winner of any Tour event gets 18% of the total purse value. Hence, the pro at the top of the leaderboard at the Ocean Club Golf Course this Wednesday will get $180,000. Alternatively, players who finish 2nd and 3rd will win $90,000 and $60,000 each. Now that we know which position wins what amount, let’s head to the course to see which pro golfer is in line to win the maximum after the 4 rounds.
What’s going on at the Ocean Club Golf Course?
Many pros have already completed their 18 holes at the Bahamas Golf Classic. At present, John VanDerLaan is leading the scoreboard with a score of 10-under par 60. He scored 9 birdies and 1 eagle while also adding an 8th-hole bogey to land on the -10. He is being closely chased by the 34-year-old; Rick Lamb and 4x Korn Ferry Tour winner; Robby Shelton. They are sitting at 8-under par 62 and 7-under par 63 after completing their first set of 18.

In fact, Shelton is not the only one with a -7 on the board. He is tied at 3rd with Tanner Gore and James Nicholas. However, there is still a lot of action to be played for the day, with quite a few pros playing their 7th hole of the round.
Only time will tell if John VanDerLaan and Co. will maintain their lead at the top of the table. Yet, judging by the way VanDerLaan has played in the 1st round, he seems like a promising candidate to finish at the top quarter of the table. Perhaps even win the whole event at the end of play on Wednesday.
It’s worth noting despite leaving LIV Golf, PGA Tour card aspirant, Eugenio Chacarra, is not on the field at the Korn Ferry Tour today. Looks like he is still looking for a direct path to get into the PGA Tour rather than starting from the scratch again.
