Tuesday has brought with it an unbelievable list of new possibilities in the golf world that are sending shock waves all around. On the first day of the Senate hearing regarding the $3 billion merger, a bizarre set of proposals made by PIF came to light.
And among the potentially alarming proposals that could grant LIV Golf supreme power in the sport, someone made a demand for Yasir Al-Rumayyan. They asked that the Chairman of the merged entity be granted access to one of the most elite cohorts in golf—a club that only 300 members are part of and is invite-only!

PIF’s governor is looking for a seat at an elite table
According to sources, PIF made a series of bold proposals at the meeting yesterday. The first shocker was having PGA loyalists Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy captain LIV Golf teams and having both golfers play in 10 LIV Golf events. But this was not the end of it.
In another shocking development, the PIF has also requested that Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the PIF, be given membership in Augusta National as well as R&A membership.

However, getting a membership at the revered Augusta National is no piece of cake. Augusta National Golf Course, situated in Georgia, is one of the world’s most prestigious and elite golf clubs. Moreover, the National is famously home to one of the major championships, the Masters Tournament, which makes it even more exclusive.
There is also no application procedure; however, the club is an ‘invite only club,’ which means membership registrations are based on invitations. Just the initial fee to join is between $40,000 and $200,000. After entry, monthly fees cost between $400 and $500. And while one could apply for membership after an invitation, the ultimate decision of inclusion is completely at the club’s discretion only whenever there is a vacancy in the 300-member club.

How likely is Yasir Al-Rumayyan to be among the exclusive members of Augusta National?
As explained, an Augusta National membership is unquestionably difficult to obtain. However, the 300-member club already includes many wealthy and influential people, making it seem like Al-Rumayyan may, after all, have a chance! Its exclusive list of current members includes Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates, billionaire Warren Buffett, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Pete Coors, Jack Welch, and former US Senator Sam Nunn.
The CEOs of some multinational companies like American Express, Bank of America, MillerCoors, and others also enjoy this rare benefit. And now, if PIF’s bold requests are adhered to, then the merged entity’s Chairman may just make his way onto that whopping influential list as well.

The Senate subcommittee will surely take its time analyzing the facts of the fast-track developments that took place yesterday. However, these alleged proposals from PIF hint at a lot of changes in the existing system. But whether or not they come to pass, only time will tell!
