Bryson DeChambeau’s success on YouTube has been talked about a lot recently. The ability to attract influential individuals and create exciting content with them has made DeChambeau’s channel rise in rankings over the past year. The LIV Golf Pro has also not shied away from experimenting with different concepts, and the audience has well received that.

Many other pure content creators have tried to generate the same kind of buzz. But they haven’t been able to break the barriers quite like DeChambeau. However, the mere presence of so many golf YouTubers has seen a variety of content about the sport explored.

After starting his side gig on YouTube more than two years ago, DeChambeau received an initial boost in followers when he won the 2024 U.S. Open back in June. Then after a brief period of consistent growth, his subscribers skyrocketed in August 2024. Much credit should go to the 47th POTUS, Donald Trump, who brought audiences from every front to watch DeChambeau’s ‘Break 50’ video with him.

On The Rough Cut Golf Podcast, speaking about the state of YouTube content creation, Rick Shiels said that the world’s most-followed YouTube channel, Mr. Beast, has “damaged YouTube a little bit,” to which everyone agreed. Host of the show, Peter Finch, added to Rick’s statement, “He’s done amazing things for him, the channel, and he has shown what could be done.” Continuing to criticize Mr. Beast, Finch added, “The fundamental aspect of what YouTube used to be has completely shifted.”

Shiels added, “Nothing shocks anyone anymore.” After a few nods of approval, Peter’s fellow host shared an example: “Bryson vs. Donald Trump, anything after that, golf-related, ‘you’ve probably got one of the most famous person in the world…” before being interrupted by Rick, who jokingly said, “And Bryson.” While the dialogue added abruptly, he was probably suggesting that anything after that video might not be considered as good.

Rick then continued to contribute to the conversation, “I think Bryson, what he has done for YouTube golf is amazing. There was always going to be a YouTube; as a tour pro, that was going to kill it.” Talking about how Bryson DeChambeau‘s rise was anticipated, he added, “It was inevitable. Surprised it took longer than what it did.” He further stated, “I think Bryson needed to take a little bit of time to find his feet, and when he has done it, he has done it unbelievably well.”

Rick Shiels raised a fair point about how any pro golfer would have achieved the same success, and it was just a matter of when. As the quartet continued to talk about the issue, let’s move our focus to what Bryson DeChambeau has been able to achieve in his time as a YouTube content creator.

The rise of Bryson DeChambeau in numbers

As Shiels said, Bryson DeChambeau did take some time to “find his feet.” Once he did manage to get the ball rolling, there has been no stopping him in the space. DeChambeau has also tried to grow his content and his YouTube channel. He saw a growth in subscriptions back in June 2024 when he gained 74,000 new subscribers. Then August 2024, when the ‘Break 50’ video with Donald Trump was released, Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel saw nearly half a million more subscribers. Since then, he has gained an average of 100,000 subscribers every month. Apart from bringing in amazing guests like Tom Brady most recently, DeChambeau has also done more elaborate challenges to keep his fans interested.
