ESPN in the year 2020 shared a throwback video of Tiger Woods’ interview after his first Major win in 1997. Tiger Woods attributed his first Masters victory to his father. Woods lost his father in 2006, and and everything else has never been the same ever since.
How Earl Woods helped Tiger win his first Major tournament
After winning his first Major tournament back in 1997, Woods gave an interview to ESPN. When asked what he would remember most about those four days of the tournament. He could not point to any one of such moments, since his whole week was filled with good memories. But there were a couple of moments that stood out for him. One was the heart-to-heart talk that he had with his father the night before the final round.

Tiger and his father, Earl Woods, talked about general life and his final round of the tournament. Tiger narrated the story of what happened next; he said, “I was just leaving the room, and my dad says, hey son, wait a minute.” As he stood there Earl said to him, “One thing, tomorrow when you go out there, it’s gonna be the heart of one of the hardest rounds of your life but if you just be yourself, stay cool, it’s gonna be one of the most rewarding rounds of your life.” With the butterflies and nerves flying high, Woods felt the weight of his father’s words and the trust he had in him.
Father instilled the winning mentality in Tiger

The winner that we see today in Tiger Woods is the hard work that Earl had put into him as a father, and as a mentor. Tiger has never shied away from crediting his father for instilling in him the mentality of a winner. Being a former army man, Earl very well understood the importance of mental strength. Hence, he made sure to instill the same while parenting Tiger.
His father’s words have worked like a charm for him throughout his journey, not just on the course but off the course as well. Even though Earl is no longer among us, Tiger has made sure to carry forward his legacy. Tiger’s stellar return after the scary car accident of 2021 can be a result of his father’s magical words.
