Why Did Collin Morikawa Jump on Board the Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian Backed LAGC Squad?

TGL is seen as a formidable alternative to other golf initiatives like LIV Golf. It has its focus set on attracting younger audiences and introducing a team-based competition format in golf. Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian are part of the ownership group of the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), the first team in the new golf league. The former golfer Michelle Wie West also holds a stake.

In the bid to establish itself as the best, they have recently taken on board Collin Morikawa who is thrilled to be joining the LA Golf Club in The Golf League (TGL) as its first official inaugural member!

The ZOZO Championship winner joins LA Golf Club in TGL

The ZOZO Championship winner, Collin Morikawa, has officially joined LA Golf Club in The Golf League (TGL). Morikawa has had a strong connection to Los Angeles since he was born there, which made him an ideal choice for the team. Ohanian personally reached out to Morikawa and received an enthusiastic response.

Morikawa’s excitement was evident in his response to Ohanian’s invitation, as he expressed, “Absolutely, I’m in. I just got chills through my body, I don’t think I’ve ever answered a call like this.” What’s even more noteworthy is Morikawa’s sentiment about this opportunity in comparison to his Ryder Cup call.

He went on further to put this call above his Ryder Cup call by saying, “I got my Ryder Cup call this year, but I think this tops it almost. Yeah, almost. We’re going to make some history, I’m glad to be a part of the team. Thank you! Can’t wait to rep LA and LA Golf Club.”

Ohanian, known as the founder of Reddit and the owner of Angel City FC, has been a trailblazer in Southern California’s sports scene. With the addition of Collin Morikawa, LA Golf Club has taken a significant step in building its team for TGL, set to start in January.

Collin Morikawa’s recent form onwards and upwards

Collin Morikawa recently ended a 27-month-long victory drought by winning the ZOZO Championship and his wife, Katherine Zhu Morikawa, played a pivotal role in his success. Mrs. Morikawa took to Instagram to express her pride in her husband’s achievement.

Collin’s last triumph was in 2021, making this victory all the more special. His wife had been a constant source of support during his career slump, and she was present to witness his win in Japan. Collin described the victory as akin to his “first win” and acknowledged the emotional significance.

With this win, Morikawa, currently ranked 20th in the Official World Golf Ranking, aims to reach his career’s best ranking once again, much to the excitement of fans. TGL, scheduled to launch in 2024, has the potential to revolutionize the sport of golf. The ZOZO Championship winner has a chance to be a part of this historical feat.
