“Any pointers?” That’s what Roger Federer asked, and it appears Nelly Korda has an interesting solution. While Korda is recognized as a professional golfer, she also has ties to tennis. Her father, Petr Korda, claimed the Australian Open Tennis Championship title in 1998. Additionally, her mother, Regina Rajchrtova, found success on the ITF circuit, winning two singles titles and three doubles titles from 1984 to 1987.

On the other hand, Sebastian Korda, her brother, currently holds the 23rd position in the men’s tennis world rankings. Given these connections, she grew up playing golf while also admiring tennis. Her admiration ultimately led her to idolize professional tennis players like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. At this year’s Mizuho Americas Open, before the final round, the 25-year-old shared her inspiration and spoke about her idols, stating, “I’ve looked up to great athletes like Nadal and Roger Federer, which is the blend of the two I hope I have.” What could be more thrilling for the golfer than witnessing one of her idols attempt to play golf?
Recently, Roger Federer shared a post on Instagram and captioned, “Trying to pick up a new hobby🥴🏌🏻‍♂️Wish me luck…🤞🏼🤌🏼Any pointers?” Where he tried his hand at a nearly flawless golf swing. This surely sparked excitement for the #1 golfer, and shortly after, Korda, in typical fangirl fashion, commented in 5 words, asking, “Do you need a coach?”

Korda’s excitement is clear as she witnesses one of her idols trying the game at which she excels. Despite the 2024 US Women’s Open not going well for the 25-year-old, her 14 LPGA victories and two major wins make her the ideal choice to coach Federer. In just this season, she has clinched six wins so far, out of which five came consecutively. You might be wondering how the #1 golfer can still be excited and cheerful just after missing the cut at a major tournament. The answer lies with her latest vow for the next major of the season.

What’s Nelly Korda’s vow for the AIG Women’s Open?

Set to take place at St. Andrews, the AIG Women’s Open is eagerly anticipated. Nelly Korda recently expressed her belief that winning the AIG Women’s Open at St. Andrews would be a particularly significant experience and further added, “For a golfer, there’s no greater honor than winning a major championship. There’s no greater feeling. To do it at St. Andrews, to do it at the home of golf—with all that history—would be so, so special.”

The anticipation for the next major is running high in Korda’s mind, which was evident when she revealed, “So I’m super excited about how the week will turn out. We’re playing at the home of golf, so I’m expecting it to be an amazing week. There’s so much history at St. Andrews, and I’m excited to be a part of that—to walk out on the Old Course and to compete out there.” Now that she has expressed her determination, it’s evident that the #1 golfer is eager to secure her third major title at St. Andrews.

Korda will be sitting out of the upcoming event, the Shoprite LPGA Classic. Do you think she will manage to stage a successful comeback and coach her idol as well? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
