Love it or hate it, the inception of the LIV Golf Series has considerably altered the golf world. Among the many new amendments in place, the rising nature of the competition purses has been a result of the rebel league’s eye-watering cash reserves. But as Talor Gooch’s unprecedented LIV Golf rewards come to light, are prize money amounts at an all-time high?

Talor Gooch’s twin wins garner exorbitant prize money

After successive victories in Adelaide and Singapore, LIV golfer Talor Gooch rocketed to the summit of the individual leaderboard. But that was the least of everybody’s concerns, as the 31-year-old pocketed a handsome sum for his triumphs.

With the LIV Golf Series churning out purses worth $25 million at each event, Gooch’s awards were destined to reach mind-boggling figures. The league awards its individual winner with an eye-watering $4 million, which stands higher than the Masters’ winning award.

With two wins within a week of each other, Gooch has made an incredible $8 million from his LIV Golf victories alone. Add the share from his team’s victory with the RangeGoats GC in Singapore and that total swells up even more.

Has Jordan Spieth earned less than Gooch’s caddie this week?

Amusingly, the lucrative power of LIV Golf can be explained by comparing the earning of Gooch’s caddie with a PGA Tour pro. Normally, caddies are accustomed to around 10% of the golfers’ earnings in a tournament.

In that case, Aussie caddie Mal Baker, who has been on the American’s bag for the past six years, has landed a huge jackpot. With more than $8 million in his pocket, Gooch should be entitled to hand out more than a million to Baker. All for a week’s hard work.

In comparison, three-time major championship winner, Jordan Spieth, managed a meager amount for a top 5 finish at April’s Masters Tournament. Considered one of the most prestigious golf events on the calendar, the 29-year-old finished tied for fourth place at the Augusta National, which helped him to prize money of $744,000.

Yet, the figure stands minuscule to Baker’s earnings on the LIV Golf Series, which has raised questions on the imbalance of the upside-down purses.
