Tiger Woods has been the face of the PGA Tour for many years. But change is the rule of nature, and with changing situations and the environment of the golf world, the face of the sport has changed too. Since they have announced the newly designated events for the 2024 schedules, Rory McIlroy has been leading the Tour. He has not only become the face of it but has also voiced collective opinions. However, Paul McGinley, the Irish professional golfer, is not delighted with how the players are handling things. He has candidly expressed his views about McIlroy and his current situation.

Paul McGinley pointed out something we all missed

The professional golfer was speaking at ‘LIVE from The Players’ when he pointed out that McIlroy is losing focus and his battery is down. Talking about the FedEx Cup winner, McGinley said, “What I saw today was him tired, I saw his battery down, I saw a guy that didn’t have the same focus, that was getting annoyed with himself, which was unlike him, and I feel the battery was just down.”

He is unhappy that they have put pressure on the shoulders of the world number three golfer. According to the 2022 Ryder Cup winner, “He’s the guy that is out taking the bullets from the media more so than other players. I’d like to see more players out there as well, backing up their own Tour.” The American Tour doesn’t belong to Woods, McIlroy, or Jay Monahan alone. The circuit is the collection of all the players. And therefore, everyone should be part of it. All the players need to take a stand.

He believes everyone has to come together and stand firm against the odds. “They can’t just have one spokesperson and let him take all the bullets, everybody has got to be in there supporting and driving this ship forward,” said McGinley. He said that McIlroy played very well at Bay Hill. But now he’s trying to get all the players on board with the changes. It is taking a toll on him, leaving him discharged and unfocused.

Why has Rory McIlroy been busy?

The past two weeks have kept the former number one golfer very occupied. The pro golfer was busy “in a seven-hour board meeting at Bay Hill last week.” He has been hosting numerous Zoom calls with all the PGA Tour players. His focus has been explaining the changes to the American Tour and how it can help combat the challenges of the LIV Golf League. The pro golfer also surprised everyone when he credited the rival circuit, saying it “benefitted the professional game.” He was the one who hinted that change was on the way, and now he is the one holding the leadership baton.
