The 78th U.S. Women’s Open Championship is going to be held for the very first time on Pebble Beach. Hence, the greatest golfers from all around the world will travel to put their best in this most awaited tournament. The three-time U.S. Women’s Open champion, Annika Sorenstam, received a special exemption to the game and she is utterly excited to compete in the championship at Pebble Beach.

Sorenstam who has 90 worldwide victories, needs no new introduction. On getting a chance to play at this season’s major tournament, the star player has something interesting to say.

With the succession of time, USGA has provided several chances for women to have an elevated platform in this sport, thus, opening doors to make female golf even more popular. Sorenstam takes her stance on the same and she reveals the pros of the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open championship.

She spoke candidly in an interview that playing on the most iconic course is a huge motivation for golfers to compete, “I think when we get a chance to tee it up on this iconic, historic, pedigree courses, it elevates the event in so many ways…this is where Tom Watson chipped in…you know, women, we like history, too and maybe we can start making history in some of these courses.” 

She also added, It’s such a magnificent facility. But there’s no doubt that having it at events like this takes us to a different notch.” 

Who are the contenders in the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open?

The much-anticipated debut is going to take place ahead this week at Pebble Beach, California. A record breaker of 2,107 entries has been registered, of which 156 will be playing at the major along with a few of the past champions like Michelle Wie West, who was the 2014 Women’s Open winner.

The USGA also offered three special exemptions, which are world no. 1 Annika Sorenstam, So Yeon Ryu, and Rose Zhang. Out of all the registrations only 25 players might play in the game. Some of which are Nelly Korda, Jin Young Ko, Leona Maguire, Xiyu Lin, and Yuka Saso.

Thus, U.S. Women’s Open has always aided its players with new chances to prove themselves. This July, the tournament is going to be even more exciting and it is to see if Annika Sorenstam wins the title for the fourth time.
