‘Take Our Players Away’: Davis Love III Makes a Staggering Accusation on LIV Golf for a ‘Hostile Takeover’ of the Sport

They marked yesterday as the beginning of a new chapter in the conflict between LIV Golf and the PGA tour. The recent comments by the former world number two, Davis Love III, have shocked the golf world. Love made this decision in response to Rory McIlroy’s most recent remarks. According to McIlroy, Norman should leave the gate for adults to handle the LIV and PGA rivalry matters. He advised anyone other than Norman to approach PGA to end the conflict.

The comments made by Love, however, might significantly affect the course of the conflict in the future. Many fine golfers from the PGA and DP World tour have joined the Saudi-sponsored LIV circuit. The players breached the contracts because of LIV, therefore, PGA is not willing to resolve the issue through simple conversation only. However, let’s find out what Love had to say about the matter.

Did Davis Love III accuse LIV golf?

The official account of NUCLR GOLF revealed the words of the PGA player Davis Love III in the latest tweet. It read, “Davis Love III on LIV — “As long as they’re actively trying a hostile takeover, take our players away, I don’t think it matters who’s running it.” Love III was asked about Rory’s comments about Norman.” When Love was asked about his opinion of McIlroy’s comments, he said that LIV has been taking all the players, therefore, they are at the fault.

Love believes that the Saudi-backed circuit has incited hostility by enlisting golfers from colleges, the PGA tour, and the DP World tour. Therefore, it makes no difference if Norman is heading the tour or another person is at his place. The comment pertaining to the statement of current no.1 golfer, McIlroy. According to the Players Championship winner, there is no point in sitting to discuss matters until and unless they say, “Hey, we give.”

On Wednesday at the RSM Classic, Love also said that if LIV confesses them taking over players and dropping the lawsuit against PGA and others, there might be a point of discussion. “If they (LIV Golf) say, ‘Hey, maybe we made a mistake and maybe we should drop a lawsuit and maybe we should quit stealing your players,” said Love. However, the PGA Championship winner thinks otherwise. According to him, LIV was not planning to do anything.

What lawsuits did LIV file against the tours?

LIV Golf became part of the antitrust lawsuit against the PGA tour during summer in Northern California. However, PGA has counter-sued the Saudi-backed circuit. They filed a case for contract interference. LIV in the United Kingdom filed another lawsuit targeting the handling of the DP World tour. 

They questioned the way the DP tour was handling its players who chose to join LIV. Therefore, Love believes there was no room for easing the relationships between the rival tours. They set the trial for the Northern California lawsuit for January 2024, followed by a hearing in February.
