The golf world will be abuzz when the most anticipated simulator league, TGL, is inaugurated in just 44 days. Yes, TGL’s start was delayed by a year because of a damaged roof, and it disappointed many in the golf world. But after the renovation of the SoFi Center in Plam Beach College’s campus, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s brainchild is all set to tee up on 7th January at ESPN.

To show how big of a scale everything will be inside the center, team Los Angeles Golf Club investor Alex Ohanian, who is Serena Williams‘s husband, and Reddit founder, shared a comparative photo on X. In the photo, we see him standing in front of the simulator screen, which the 24 golfers would soon hit. And the 6’5 golf enthusiast looked smaller than expected. He said, “Alexis for scale. I’m holding a banana. @TGL ready for January.” The screen size of TGL is 24 times that of what would be found at other simulator ranges and is 65 feet tall, so undoubtedly people could not see Ohanian and neither the banana he was holding.

It is also a huge slapback to those who have criticized the tech-infused league and doubted if it will be a hyped event when it starts. Just a few days ago, the No Laying Up podcast team suggested lifting the screen when the golfers play elevated holes and joked about the reality of the holes made just for TGL. Even with being made fun of, TGL recently got the investment from the SNL host Jimmy Fallon, and NFL legend Eli Manning has also joined TGL as an investor.

Nonetheless, the simulator league will be a happening event with many top stars like Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Max Homa, and others teeing up at Palm Beach Gardens. And while the pros prep for TGL, the golf fans can’t wait for it either.

Golf fans are excited about Tiger Woods’s TGL

If Tyrannosaurus X existed in 2024, then at least three T. red would have to be stacked over each other to fill the entire screen of TGL. That is the size of the screen, and now you can imagine how entertaining it would be to watch the golfers compete at TGL. Thus, Sports Business Journal’s writer, Josh Carpenter, wrote, “Good look at the scale of the TGL screen via one of its team owners.” Another appreciated Alexis Ohanian for his effort to show the enormous scale at which TGL was working and commented, “We LOVE to see it.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is TGL the future of golf, or just a high-tech gimmick for the elite?

Have an interesting take?

TGL was postponed for over a year after a night’s high wind destroyed the air dome of the SoFi Center, and that idea was scrapped altogether for the 2025 start. Regardless, TGL has launched the schedule from January 7th to March 3rd. There will be fifteen matches starting with Wyndham Clark’s The Bay Golf Club taking on Xander Schauffele’s New York Golf Club. One said excitedly, “Can’t freakin wait.”

And while the ticket prices ($160) range high and people criticize the league for absurd prices, not everyone was offended by saying, “This is epic.” As people were containing their excitement for the event and chanting, “LFG!” there was a little criticism, too. One fan took a jab at the league and said, “Still don’t understand how this isn’t just Golden Tee for millionaires.”

Whatever the golf world’s reception may have been, it is promising to see the large scale at which TGL would perform. As much as the fans and pros have shown excitement, the event may exceed expectations and turn out to be a huge success for the team owners and players.
