Can McIlroy's Halloween fun mask the sting of his near-misses this season?

Even if Halloween is not as popular in Northern Ireland, Rory McIlroy took part in it wholeheartedly. The 35-year-old did not reveal his Halloween costume for the 2024 edition but thanks to his best bud on the PGA Tour, Shane Lowry, the golf world got a sneak peek at what the 4-time major winner chose to become this year. And let’s say, he did not choose anyone from the golf fraternity. Lowry posted a series of photos from his Halloween celebrations.

First, it was with his family. His oldest child, Iris Lowry, became Taylor Swift with her iconic shimmery dress and cowgirl boots. His younger daughter, Ivy Lowry, became Dr. Seuss from The Cat in the Hat. Then came the Ryder Cup boys. While Lowry was himself cosplaying as Travis Kelce, the 2025 Team Europe Ryder Cup captain, Luke Donald was a Chicago Cubs member, and the surprising one was Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman was unrecognizable with his Mario outfit and the fake enlarged abdomen. The fans called him, “Super Rorio!!” and joked about how McIlroy would’ve introduced himself by saying, “It’sa me, Rorio!” It is the off-season for the PGA Tour pros and McIlroy is undoubtedly enjoying it despite the results he has achieved in the season. Now, it would be wrong to say that the 26-time PGA Tour winner’s season had been disappointing, but it was not forgiving for the 35-year-old either.

He won one individual event on the PGA Tour and a team one with Lowry. However, he missed out on many others by one shot or two. The missed US Open putt at the 72nd hole is unforgettable. Then at the Irish Open, he finished runner-up again and was T2, once again, at the BMW PGA Championship. McIlroy has had many near misses in the 2024 season, but he has not let it affect how he spends time with his family. The result stays on the course and off of it he is just a normal being, capable of enjoying like everyone else.

But McIlroy isn’t the only one forgetting the season woes and enjoying Halloween. Despite his disappointing game, Brooks Koepka sent fans into a frenzy with his Halloween look.

Have an interesting take?

Brooks Koepka’s 2024 season was a little different from Rory McIlroy’s and, disappointingly, he could not finish at the top in any of the majors. But he won twice on LIV Golf and said, “This year has not been great. This year has been very disappointing.”

The 5x major winner explained he judged his season by major performances and didn’t have a dominant form at all. Thus, the statement rang true for him. However, now those results were past Koepka as he spent time with his wife, Jena Sims, and son, Crew Koepka. As McIlroy chose Koepka’s cosplay from last year, the LIV Golf pro donned a black and white tuxedo with black glasses, and his son matched him.

On the other hand, Sims was wearing brown with green antennae and glasses to resemble Neeble, the worm from MIB. The family enjoyed trick or treating with their 14-month-old son and overlooked whatever may have happened on the course just like McIlroy. As pros enjoy their Halloween, what was your outfit for the night?
