Annika Sörenstam has been dubbed as nothing short of a legend on the LPGA Tour. The fact that an event on the circuit is now named after the golfer is proof of the mark she has left in the sport of golf. And, taking on the field at the Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican is none other than Nelly Korda.

The golfing world is slowly building up on hype as the Annika driven by Gainbridge is all set to kick off in the LPGA Tour. Although there have been many instances of the men’s golfing world naming tournaments after players, such an instance on the women’s circuit had been rare if not nil. And Korda, the defending champion, was all praise for it.

The 25-year-old expressed her approval of the same as she indicated how “super important” it was to name events after legends. Moreover, she mentioned how doing so would “grow the game more,” all the while making people “more aware of a tournament” thereby bringing in different crowds. Moreover, she brought in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational which debuted in 2008 and saw its last edition as a match-play event in 2017 to convey how amazing it was.

Continuing with her response, the 8X LPGA Tour champ pointed out how ” it also honors the legends of our game that have done so much” for golf which, according to her, is “really good.” And, when asked if she had any nominations in mind, the 1X major winner expressed her admiration for Inbee Park, the LPGA icon who won 21 times on the circuit including 7 majors.

Well, after all the hype, it does pique one’s interest in the upcoming tournament that is set to kick off soon. And, the legend herself had a lot to do with the same.
