More and more players from the PGA Tour and DP World Tour have been signing with the LIV Golf lately. And the American and European tours have joined hands to prevent the players from taking their rival league’s money.

With more players signing with the LIV Golf, the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour have made a strategic move to stop them. The organizations have formed an alliance and signed a 13-year partnership contract between them.

In 2020, both the tours have made a strategic alliance between two, which had benefited the players of the organizations. However, with the LIV Golf becoming more of a threat, the two have signed a 13-year operational joint venture partnership.

The benefits of the 13-year partnership

According to the new partnership, the PGA will increase its existing stake in the DP World Tour by 15-40%. The move will help the events to increase their purse money.

The new joint venture will also ensure the top 10 players of the DP World Tour will receive PGA Tour cards. Furthermore, the top 5 players from other tours which already had alliances with the European Tour, including the Sunshine Tour and ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia, will also get to enjoy a formal pathway to the DP World Tour.

Notably, the main attraction of the LIV Golf is the purse money they offer to its field. They offer a total purse of $225 million for the 8 events in the LIV Golf Invitational Series. With the purse money increasing in the Tour events, the players will less likely try to join the league.

The opinions of the DP World and PGA Tour officials on the new joint venture

“Building on the success of the existing Strategic Alliance between ourselves and the PGA TOUR,” Keith Pelley, the chief executive officer of the DP World, said about the partnership. “This move will significantly enhance the meritocracy that has successfully served the professional game on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 50 years.”

The PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, also shared a similar opinion about the move. “We will continue to collaborate on a global schedule and key commercial areas as we draw our organizations,” he further added.  “…and memberships even closer together while innovating to provide the most entertaining and compelling golf possible to fans around the world.”
