While the world is desperately waiting for the Ryder Cup to begin there is one person who will not thoroughly be able to enjoy the event despite being an important part of the golfing world. And that person is Phil Mickelson. His dream to play in Rome this year was prevented by double trouble of moving to LIV and gambling allegations.
And though the lefty might be catching the show on television, he is still linked to it in an unforeseen way. There is a slight possibility that he could have made it to Rome had Johnson chosen him as his pick. But that dream of Phil fazed out. However, Johnson is still counting on Mickelson and his previous experiences for some insight.

This year Zach Johnson is going to carry the burden of Ryder Cup captaincy on his shoulders. It is a crucial position, and he holds the capacity to make or break the game, which is why he is using all the information he can get.
Last week, while playing at the Fortinet Championship, Johnson gave an exclusive interview to Golfweek where he spilled the tea on approaching Phil Mickelson for Ryder Cup advice who is a good friend of Johnson.
Zach shed light on the matter by saying “I’ve spoken to him about the Ryder Cup, but it’s been a long time since I’ve conversed with him. Just because he’s a friend, number one. And number two, he was extremely kind and congratulated me on my captaincy.”
Continuing his praise of Mickelson he added “He was always a quasi captain-leader, as a player. So, yeah, strange not to have him involved. You know, it was a situation that just kind of evolved organically.” Phil may not be playing in the event but atheist he could be of help to Johnson.

With decades of experience under his belt, Mickelson has performed in 12 Ryder Cups and also served as an assistant captain under Steve Stricker at Whistling Straits. In fact, he was once also paired with his rival Woods, and though the duo failed it was an iconic match. But once he switched leagues and ditched the PGA Tour his chances of playing in the Ryder Cup went down the drain.
Moreover, two months ago he was accused by his old gambling partner of betting on the Ryder Cup, which he later denied. However, his reputation has suffered.
He has not enjoyed a victory in the last two years. No wonder Rome was not in his luck this year.
