The largest applause on the shocking announcement that happened just days ago, came from LIV Golf when PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, announced that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf would shortly merge under a new structure. Before it was made public, several well-known PGA Tour players were not even aware of the contract, which has led many PGA Tour pros to demand Monahan’s resignation.

Jay Monahan, eventually, came forward to address those concerns with a declaration that the PGA Tour players’ loyalty would be recognized. And now, in a twist of fate, new headlines are making their way, which don’t seem to be in favor of the LIV golfers!

Big problem arises for LIV golfers amid huge merger

When PGA Tour players left their leagues and joined LIV Golf, the PGA Tour suspended them from playing in their league immediately. As a result, the PGA Tour was sued for antitrust violations by 11 LIV players, including Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Ian Poulter. They later went on to withdraw their names from the case against the PGA Tour.

However, it appears that the PGA Tour is still unwilling to forgive these players. A well-known golf-related account called NUCLR GOLF recently posted a tweet on player fines that read: “ESPN is also reporting that penalties for players who left the PGA TOUR will be handed out on a ‘case by case basis’ with the stiffest of penalties for those players that a) sued the PGA TOUR and b) actively recruited other players to leave alongside them. Dunne says a committee will be formed to make these determinations.”

If this is true, then we can witness new rivalries in the newly formed merger. Is this the cause of Mickelson’s silence against the merger, despite the fact that he is LIV Golf’s most ardent supporter? Only time will tell. But all of this really lends Brandel Chamblee’s case a lot of credibility.

Chamblee’s forecast on the future of the LIV golfers

Before the merger news broke out, golf analyst Brandel Chamblee, was engaged in a war of words with Mickelson on Twitter. Soon after the announcement, Brooks Koepka mocked Chamblee on Twitter. Chamblee gave them a befitting reply when he appeared on the Rich Eisen Show.

He claimed that he found it most hilarious that LIV golfers were jubilant over the merger announcement. These golfers, according to Chamblee, were unaware of the implications of the agreement. And that they failed to realize that Jay Monahan, the current commissioner of the PGA Tour, will be their boss. If the deal is approved, LIV players’ fines would rise, and they will only be able to participate in the main tournaments.

After hearing about the penalties, it appears that what Chamblee had said might actually be right. But all of this will depend on how things develop over time. So for the time being, all we can do is watch the wild ride the golf world is now on.
