In golf, a long-term caddie is like the backbone of the player; he is, in a true sense, the driving force behind the player. The relationship between a golfer and their caddie is a unique bond that can span decades and culminate in many victories on the course. This bond is not just limited to the game but often extends to a close friendship that endures beyond the fairways. But with that, the relationship comes with some deep intricacies.

Sam has been working with Alker for the last four years, although he has been much more than a caddie to him. According to an article in Golf Digest, Alker wrote, “He has been a friend, a motivator, a decision maker and a fighter.” Emotions of the pro golfer could be felt when he wrote, “We’ve had some tough times and, as of late, some really good times. He’s been like an older brother to me since we first got connected in 2019.” The pro golfer pleaded with his fans to join him and his family in prayers for Sam and his family.

The golf journey of Sam Workman

Sam Walker’s journey in golf began at the young age of 6. He had a passion for the sport and quickly took to the greens. As he grew older, he went on to play junior college golf and eventually became a teaching pro. He then ran a municipal course in Texas, where he honed his skills and developed a deep love for the sport.

In the 1990s, Brad Elder asked Sam to carry his bag in a qualifier, marking the beginning of his journey as a caddie. Over the years, he caddied for nearly 400 tournaments, mostly on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he built a reputation as a dependable and hardworking professional. Sam’s journey in golf has been filled with ups and downs, but through it all, he has never lost his passion for the sport. He is now an essential part of Steven Alker’s life.

Our hearts go out to Sam’s family, and we pray for his speedy recovery and the strength of his family and friends. Drop in your wishes in our comment section below.
