Is Tiger Woods returning to the course soon? The GOAT has been recovering from a number of injuries in the past few months. He had a microdecompression surgery in September 2024 to reduce the spasms in his lower back. Ever since then, Woods has only appeared on the course once, at the PNC Championship last year. That, too, was because he had Charlie Woods beside him and a golf cart at his disposal. But generally speaking, the 82x PGA winner has continued to have a complicated relationship with his health.

But Woods has still featured in TGL regularly. That is mostly because he doesn’t need to walk 7,000 yards for 18 holes. The indoor arena setup is ideal for Mr. T to continue doing what he loves without causing stress to his body. Woods had announced that he was going to return for the 2025 Genesis Invitational. But the GOAT withdrew from the tournament as he couldn’t deal with the heartbreak of the unfortunate passing of his beloved mother.

Woods has since made another appearance in TGL to fulfill the promise he had kept to his mother of never stopping to compete. And he has been putting up some consistent performances as well. Just take the example of the Jupiter Links Golf Club’s victory over Boston Common Golf, 4-3. In the same match, when it came to Hole 13, Woods was ready as his putt circled around the hole, eventually sinking and successfully keeping his team ahead.

While his TGL stint has largely been successful, he has another invitation at his doorstep from a tournament that he won twice in the past. TWLEGION tweeted, “🚨👀🐅 #NEW: The PLAYERS Championship tournament director Lee Smith has commented on a possible Tiger Woods appearance at the 2025 tournament (via @talkSPORT).” Yes, the Director of the tournament has personally extended an invitation to Woods to join the field at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course from March 13-16, 2025.

Smith acknowledged how Woods’ appearances in a TGL event “brings the internet to a halt.” He explained that having him play on the course in March for “The Players would be an amazing moment for our game.” The Players Championship Director believes that “just getting some glimpses into his greatness and shot-making ability for a brief moment” will bring a lot of joy to the golf community.

Will Tiger Woods accept the invitation to The PLAYERS Championship?

Tiger Woods is no stranger to the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course. As Smith already mentioned, Woods has won the tournament twice in his illustrious career. But it has been a while since he last dominated the event. The GOAT’s last The PLAYERS Championship victory came in 2013, where he beat a strong field of Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, & Co. to win by 2 strokes. The signature event has since not been favorable for him, as he continued to play in it till 2019.

Yes, you read that right. Tiger Woods last played in The Players Championship in 2019. He has since limited his appearances to major events and the Genesis Invitational. Moreover, Woods is still dealing with the passing of his mother. No one is sure what his mental state might be right now. Hence, the chances of him accepting Lee Smith’s invitation are quite low. But if he does choose to join the field, then the entire community will be glued to their screens watching his every move.
