However, despite him having absolutely no interest in joining the league, he has always been in the news due to his criticism against it. And quite notably, the spotlight has taken a huge toll on his mental and emotional health, and thus, his game. The golf ace missed the cut at the Players Championship, followed by another missed cut at the Masters. Moreover, he even skipped the RBC Heritage tournament making it his second missed elevated event for the season.

Fans were extremely worried about the player and the way he had been acting in his career. However, he has finally opened up about why he wasn’t at his best in the past few tournaments. And it looks like his condition had everything to do with the LIV Golf drama. “It’s not the golf side of things,” McIlroy said.

McIlroy’s views about LIV Golf rebels have been pretty clear to golf fans ever since the league was launched. However, his recent statements made him sound a little contrasting, and rather soft about the Saudi players. And it was after three of the biggest European tour stars – Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, and Ian Poulter, gave up their DP World Tour memberships over their LIV Golf decision.

Reacting to the news, McIlroy said it was ‘a shame’ for them to take such a step and put their Ryder Cup futures in jeopardy. “When they look back on their career…a big chunk of their legacy is the roles that they played in the Ryder Cup for Europe, and you know for those three guys to not Captain Europe one day, it’s a shame,” he said.
