McIlroy’s views about LIV Golf rebels have been pretty clear to golf fans ever since the league was launched. However, his recent statements made him sound a little contrasting, and rather soft about the Saudi players. And it was after three of the biggest European tour stars – Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, and Ian Poulter, gave up their DP World Tour memberships over their LIV Golf decision.
Reacting to the news, McIlroy said it was ‘a shame’ for them to take such a step and put their Ryder Cup futures in jeopardy. “When they look back on their career…a big chunk of their legacy is the roles that they played in the Ryder Cup for Europe, and you know for those three guys to not Captain Europe one day, it’s a shame,” he said.
