The PGA TOUR is rolling into its second event of the year, and we’re still soaking up the Hawaiian vibes! The Sony Open is set to tee off at Wai’alae Country Club in Honolulu from January 9-12. With the season opener, The Sentry, wrapping up just a few days ago on Maui, the TOUR pros are keeping things island-themed. The weather was friendly enough for The Sentry, but now all eyes are on Mother Nature to see what she has in store for this week.

We’ve got a stacked field of players, including top-ranked TOUR pros, seasoned veterans, former Sony Open champs, and talented rookies. They’re all fighting for a piece of the $8.3 million purse, with the winner taking home a whopping $1,494,000. While the players are ready with their gear, the famously unpredictable Hawaiian weather could still play a pivotal role in the tournament’s outcome.

This week’s weather looks like to be on the players’ side—sunny skies and warm temps, just how you’d imagine a Hawaiian January. But as always, the devil’s in the details, and there’s a bit of wind creeping into the picture, especially over the weekend. For day 1 of the event, we’re looking at a pretty comfortable day with highs around 81°F and lows dropping to 70°F in the evening. The rain’s not expected to appear, with just a 20% chance, so don’t be surprised if you can leave the umbrella behind. The wind? A light breeze, around 7-12 MPH. Nothing too crazy, but enough to keep players guessing on their approach shots.

Then comes the round 2, which is more or less like the previous round weather-wise. Still  81°F at the high and a cozy 70°F at the low. The rain’s still looking minimal at 20%, but the wind picks up a bit, blowing at 8-13 MPH. It’s not quite “hunker down” levels of wind, but it’ll definitely keep things interesting, especially on those tricky Wai’alae greens. While these first two days seem tournament-friendly, the big question is: what about the climax?

How will the weekend weather treat the players?

Saturday’s looking like another warm day with highs of 81°F and lows around 71°F. The good news? The rain’s mostly staying away, with just a 20% chance—so no worries about soggy fairways. But here’s the catch: the wind’s picking up a bit, blowing at 10-17 MPH. This could make things tricky, especially on those more exposed holes at Wai’alae. Players are going to need to adjust their strategies and stay focused.

By Sunday, it’ll be more of the same in terms of temperature—around 81°F during the day and dropping to 71°F at night. Rain?

Almost nothing—just a 10% chance. But the wind? It’s picking up even more, gusting between 12-17 MPH. That means the breeze will be a real factor, making club selection and shot control even more crucial as players make their final push.
