We’re halfway through the Sony Open in Hawaii, and it’s safe to say that things are getting interesting and the game is taking shape. Patrick Fishburn and Denny McCarthy are currently tied for the lead at 10 under par, which came out as a surprise to many, considering the number of top entities like Tom Kim and Hideki Matsuyama who took home the first trophy of 2025 at the Sentry. Fishburn and McCarthy are just one shot ahead of a pack of contenders, including Kensei Hirata, who’s lurking at 9 under.

The three of them will face off in the final grouping on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. However, it may be too soon to count out Matsuyama just yet as the former Masters Champion is only four under par, but he’s proven he can turn it on when it matters. Meanwhile, Fishburn and McCarthy are chasing their first PGA Tour wins and the hopes are high as they chase the title. You can catch all the action on NBC from 4-6 p.m. ET, followed by Golf Channel from 6-8 p.m. ET. Or, stream featured group coverage on PGA Tour Live via ESPN+ starting at 1 p.m. ET.

Have an interesting take?

The prize money for the 2025 Sony Open is a whopping $8.7 million – a pretty sweet payday for the winner! But let’s break it down, the champion will take home a staggering $1.566 million. That’s a life-changing amount of money, and it’s no wonder the competition is fierce. I mean, who wouldn’t want to earn that kind of cash in just one tournament? Coming in second isn’t so bad either, with a prize of $948,300. That’s still a significant payout, and I’m sure the players would be thrilled to take home that kind of money.

But the prizes don’t stop there – in fact, the payouts continue all the way down the leaderboard. Third place takes home $600,300, which is still an incredible amount of money. And even fourth and fifth place earn significant prizes, with $426,300 and $356,700 up for grabs, respectively. These are life-changing payouts, and every player is fighting hard to get their share of the $8.7 million purse. The tension is palpable as the players jockey for position, and we can’t wait to see who comes out on top! With so much on the line, the stakes are high, and the drama is sure to unfold over the remaining rounds. It’s going to be an exciting finish, that’s for sure!
