With all the major tournaments wrapped up for this season, the golfers are now eyeing the final biggest tournament in September, the Ryder Cup. It is one of the most prestigious, time-honored golfing events and every golfer wishes to be a part of it.

And besides the PGA Tour Players, the LIV Golfers are in search of a spot at the coveted cup as well. Eager for his selection at the event is LIV defector Talor Gooch who has openly expressed his desire to play at the event in the past few months. And now he has found the support of another golfer as well.

LIV Teammate stands up for Taylor Gooch on Ryder Cup question

LIV Golfer, Talor Gooch has long desired to be part of this year’s Ryder Cup. In 2023 he won three LIV events, Adelaide, Singapore, and most recently at Andalucía. And Talor wishes these victories will allow him to qualify for the Cup. This week, he is performing at the LIV Golf Greenbrier event. And at its press conference, he was asked whether he has got in touch with Zach Johnson, the Team USA captain for this year at the Ryder Cup. Gooch replied that he hasn’t. When further probed about if he thinks he should be on the team, his LIV teammate Harold Varner jumped to his defense.

Varner said, “I think that’s a tough question. No shit he wants to play on the Ryder Cup team, and some people think he should be on the team.” Harold further said that he would say yes to every time seeing Gooch at the Ryder Cup. He continued: “He’s playing absolutely great golf, so I think it’s a great question.” The statement was shared by NUCLR Golf on Twitter.

 

Harold empathizes with Gooch saying it is difficult for him to just sit there and ponder over the possibility of being on the team. In the recent past, Gooch has been very expressive of his desire to play in the coveted cup.

In 2022 Talor was 15th on the Ryder Cup points list. But his move to LIV Golf brought a lot of changes. His recent comments on his chances after the shocking merger brought him a lot of attention. He has said, “I wonder what this means for Ryder Cup. If apples were to apples, the guy leading the FedExCup and the guy leading the LIV standings, it’s like … I think my play has shown that it’s at least worth a discussion.”

So far the American players who have been confirmed to play in the event so far are Patrick Cantlay, Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Max Homa, Xander Schauffele, and Wyndham Clark.
