Solheim Cup transportation fiasco—Is the LPGA Tour failing its loyal fans?

The 2023 Solheim Cup was for the talks, first because Team USA lost three times in a row. And second, because the fans were downright frustrated with the coverage. The ones who did not visit Finca Cortersin for the 33rd edition were hoping to watch the entertaining event on TV, but the commercial load and inefficient camera work drained the masses. It seems that the 2024 Solheim Cup is not getting better either, as now the problem has started for on-the-course fans.

The morning foursomes started with Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz going against Charley Hull and Esther Henseleit at 7:05 a.m. ET. But the stands on the first tee were half empty just a few minutes before. Were the fans not interested in watching the epic battle between Hull and Korda? Surprisingly, No. Golfweek’s writer, Beth Ann Nichols posted minutes ago that the seats were empty, and before that, a fan at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club revealed why.

It was because the Solheim Cup had shuttle bus issues, which were delayed. This caused “serious transportation issues,” as Nicholas reported. Hence, fans were late to reach the course and missed the first tee shot of the 2024 Solheim Cup. It is surely a disastrous start to the 34th edition of the biennial tournament, because if fans aren’t at the venue, then what’s the fun? Furthermore, many fans have complained about standing in lines for more than 3 hours but still could not be on the bus and see the first tee shots. The implementation and poor planning by the event organizers have affected the fans badly and left many disappointed.

As there were reported to be still 1000 more people in line, it would not be wrong to assume that those golf enthusiasts will miss many more holes of the Friday Foursomes. The LPGA Tour or the Solheim Cup has not responded to the fan’s issues yet. You would hope that it is the only problem that fans have faced for trying to watch their favorite golfers, but unfortunately, it is just a continuation of the opening ceremony.

The Solheim Cup disaster started on Thursday

The poor TV coverage woes certainly will not end at the 2024 Solheim Cup. The Solheim Cup had to be the biggest event that the golf world was excited about, and as it was coming home, the levels were reaching the sky, but the fans were just disappointed. Even at the Opening Ceremony on Thursday at The Great Lawn, the buses were fewer, fans were standing in lines, there were fewer parking spots, and the toilets were locked.

But the issues were also there for those watching at home. This time, Sky Sports has taken the reins to broadcast the Solheim Cup; the coverage has not been any better. A fan complained that the stream has bad sound quality and awful camera angles. They criticized the organizers for not putting in work to promote women’s golf properly and bashed it immensely.

There are still two more days and the evening fourballs left of the Solheim Cup. If the shuttle bus issues are not solved and the coverage does not get any better, the Solheim Cup may lose fans on and off the course.
