Team Europe did not get off to a great start this morning, on the first day of the Solheim Cup 2023. In fact, they got completely swiped off, with the US team winning all four matches of the foursome round. Emily Pedersen was paired up with Charley Hull in the morning, and the pair were hardly able to show any sparks in the first session.
Undoubted since then, the whole team was down on spirit; however, now that all might change, all thanks to Pedersen. In the midst of dark crowds, the Danish star has just moments ago gone on to a staggering feat in the afternoon four-ball session. And with it, the hopes for Team Europe and its fans have undoubtedly risen!

Emily Pedersen stepped out of the course for the second time today. After a disappointing first session for the whole team, the European team has been trying to get back in the game.
Pedersen paired up with Maja Stark for this round and has been fighting hard to not let the lead run away to the US pair. The US team had won two holes, and the European team had won one hole, with the other nine holes tied. This is when the magical moment occurred at the 12th hole.
Emily Pedersen teed off the 12th hole after the other three had landed their balls near the hole. She confidently shot the ball and was waiting to see where it landed. It landed on the green and majestically rolled past the other three balls. And you will not believe what happened next. The ball fell right into the hole, turning the shot into an ace.

With this shot, Pedersen and Stark won the hole, as the US team scored two. The lead that the US team carried has been wiped off with the Danish star’s hole in one, and the light at the end of the tunnel for Team Europe is starting to look brighter.
Notably, Pedersen’s hole in one is also only the second ace in the entire history of the Solheim Cup, and surprisingly, the first that came a decade ago has many similarities with the LPGA star’s.

Coincidentally, the first hole-in-one in the Solheim Cup was also scored by someone from the European team. This historic feat took place in 2013. On day 2, during the morning foursomes, Anna Nordqvist paired up with Caroline Hedwall to face Jessica Korda and Morgan Pressel, and that’s when the magic happened.
Nordqvist teed off one of her shots, which found its way eagerly into the hole. This set a record for the first ever ace in the Solheim Cup. And now Pedersen joins the Swedish star as the only other person to have achieved this.

This year too, Nordqvist is a part of the current Solheim Cup’s playing twelve. Perhaps she can once again repeat that feat and set yet another record. Two aces at the same event—now wouldn’t that be something?
