How many of us have a mother that would walk up to the audience stands and throw out souvenirs for fans, while we are busy playing our sport in the field? Not many of us, but then not many of us actually have fans either. Well, anyway, the point is Danielle Kang has a very supportive mother.

Kang has been knocking our socks off in her singles match in Solheim Cup 2023 on Sunday. She currently holds a strong lead against Charley Hull and Kang’s mom could not hold back her excitement. She has been making sure her daughter’s fans stay energized and continue cheering for their icon.

Danielle Kang was born in San Fransisco on October 20, 1992 to KS Kang and Grace Lee. She spent her early childhood in Busan, South Korea, and later came back to California. She has an older brother named Alex who is a professional golfer as well.

At the heart of Danielle Kang’s story is her late father, KS Kang. The passionate man not only nurtured her zeal for golf but also served as her caddy during her early successes.

He served as her caddy during her multiple wins at the US Women’s Amateur tournaments in 2010. Tragically, KS passed away from brain cancer in 2013, leaving her daughter grieving his absence.

After her big win at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2017, she visited her father’s tombstone and dedicated her success to him. She wrote “We did it” on her Instagram post sharing a picture of the moment.

Danielle Kang’s mother is no less supportive

Danielle Kang’s mother, Grace Lee, has been a pillar of support in her life and golf career, especially in her father’s absence. Lee has been known to travel with her daughter for tournaments and events, offering encouragement all the time. Ah! The things parents do for their children!

Despite not being present for her previous victories in her amateur career, (the dad took care of those quite well), she was there to witness her daughter’s first major championship win on the LPGA Tour.

The 30-year-old has spoken of her mother as someone who understands the challenges and hardships their family has faced. She not only understood the past struggles but was also aware of her daughter’s battle with herself.

How her mother helped Kang get back into golf

Grace Lee played a significant role in helping her daughter get back into golf after a period of emotional struggle. After the passing of her father, Danielle faced a lot of pressure and disappointments from her golfing career.

She admitted to a period where she grew distant from the sport and even expressed a dislike for it. She described it as an issue of not playing for the right reasons. During this dark phase, her mother provided crucial emotional support. She reassured Kang that it was okay not to win every tournament and that the most important thing was to believe in herself.

When the six-time LPGA Tour winner’s mind wandered off to pursue her other interests, she naturally felt unhappy with playing golf. And her mother did not hesitate to tell her that she should stop playing if it made her feel that way.

Her mother’s timely reminders that everything was okay, and will be okay, gave Kang the emotional strength she needed. She was able to regain her passion for golf, and the rest is history.

Lee’s attempts to keep her daughter’s spirits up have now extended beyond the usual. Now, Lee is making efforts to lift the spirits of Kang’s fans as well.

The Solheim Cup 2023

While her daughter is doing well against Charley Hull, Lee is spreading happy vibes in the stands. She is throwing what looks like paper towels probably signed by Kang or something. The tweet from LPGA that shared a video of Grace Lee jokingly mentioned how she throws so well.

Kang is fighting effortlessly to win the singles match on the final day of the Solheim Cup 2023. The 30-year-old played thrice on the first two days but won only once. But now when the American team needs her to up the ante, she has lifted her game in a big way. Her mom’s faith in her daughter hopefully will help her earn her a crucial point.
